Medal of Honor winners
 

In the history of America 39 million have served in the military...and 3,500 have been awarded the Medal of Honor. A new book has photographs and the stories of the current living Medal of Honor winners...which I think numbers around 140. One of the stories is about a 14 year old that lied about his age and joined the Marines during the 2nd World War. He was made some kind of a clerk but went AWOL from that duty to stow away on a ship of Marines that was headed for Okinawa. He made the Okinawa invasion and when two grenades were thrown into a fox hole he and others were in...he jumped on top of the grenades to protect his fellow Marines. He survived and was awarded the Medal of Honor. When he arrived home his mother insisted that he go back to school and complete his education...which he did. He was a ninth grader and possessed the Medal of Honor.

i wonder if they give out medals for getting run over by your own jeep?

Doubt it.....Purple Heart maybe.

I do not know as I have never personally known anyone that was run over by their own Jeep or by anyone's "Jeep".

That's a great story, but you left out the part where 30 years later a bunch of Republicans who never served in war themselves decided that he didn't fall on two grenades at the same time, so he wasn't enough of a hero to get the medal.

I suppose that you are referring to those that are questioning if Senator Kerry deserved his first Purple Heart. All that is required for a Purple Heart is that a wound requires treatment and virtually any and all wounds are treated...if for no other reason than to help prevent infection. Bottom line...a wound is a wound be it a serious wound or a very minor wound. It is really stretching to question if someone deserved their Purple Heart.
