New Iron Chef
So anybody catch any of these so far? If so what do you think, figure they will make a ongoing series shortly?
|
Have not seen the new ones but I love the old ones, funny as hell!
:thumbsup |
Only one I've seen so far is Mario vs. Morimoto
They are repeating them again this week and I hope to catch the others as well. They were also already advertising the DVD (and it's for sale on the foodtv website) |
I saw Sakai vs. Flay on Friday. I thought Sakai had it won but Flay won 54-51. Fixed? I missed Morimoto vs. Batali. It will be repeated tonight. Morimoto vs. Puck is also on tonight!
|
I caught the hour long making of episode, and both battles so far. Was dissappointed with the first battle a good deal, second one seemed ok.
During the making of episode they tossed around some figures from first show. Do you relize they used over 8 million bucks in groceries. |

With Sakai's record, I thought it probably was fixed. |
I love that show!:thumbsup

I saw them advertising a tag team competition as well, looked like Flay and Batali were going to tag against Morimoto and Sakai...that would be an interesting twist on the competition |
that german guy that almost cried was a kick ass chef.
my girl watches that shit so i get stuck listening to it, the anouncer guy is funny. |

Flay is a great chef, but seems like one those chefs that's a real prick to work with due to the HUGE ego... |

Personally, I love Bobby. I try to catch his shows whenever possible. I agree with you though, he does come across as having a HUGE ego. I guess when you're that age and you have the fame & accomplishments that you do under your belt & a hot girlfriend that used to be on a top TV show (Stephanie March from Law & Order)...it could make your head explode. lol |

I like Flay's cooking style as my specialty when I was a chef was Southwestern and was similar to what he does (lost of different chilis and peppers). My biggest influence was Mark Miller (owner of Coyote Cafe and Red Sage restaurants) and he had some similarities to Flay recipe-wise. I also enjoyed working under Marinus DeBruin who was once chef for the Queen of England. He taught me the art of presentation, making simple dishes into masterpieces with just a couple extra touches and the art of food. |
Sykkboy2 to keep the records straight Flay lost to Morimoto in New York, (where he stood on the cutting board) and won the rematch in Tokyo (where he flipped the cutting board on the floor before standing on the table). So he was 50-50 with Morimoto.
As for Flays defeat over Sakai, I can see where he could of won on taste. Since the Japanese palate and the American palate are very different and all the judges where American. Yet to out score on originality was BS, cmon Sakai even made trout ice cream. Then to tie on plating was utter BS, Flays dishes were plated with the same pizzaz you would expect to get at Denny's. |
At least William Shatner wasn't hosting these. :glugglug

my mistake...I was thinking back about this and getting ready to repost a retraction...lol I missed the Flay vs. Sakai battle but will catch it on repeats. |
I saw Sakai vs Flay and really enjoyed it. As far as being rigged I doubt it. As it has been said you are dealing with American judges here and I assume they made thier choice based on thier particular palate.
I think they ought to do Iron Chef vs American up and coming chefs. Also I really like Alotn Brown as host. I can't get enough of that guy especially the making of ICA. You guys ought to head over to Food network and read the ICA board. Those guys are wrose than some here... LOL |
