Whose got a phone system/pbx in their office or home?

Someone just asked me how much one of those things cost, they need 5 phones with it, with intercom, hold music, remote paging (?), nothing too fancy, any ideas?

PABX is useful in an office wherein lots of people are to share a few lines. I just dont have any idea how much it'll cost you.

I have a nice system. Think it costs retail plus installation about $10 to $15K, but I got got it for $5,000.

Remote paging is going to cost you. If you could by-pass that you could just buy 5 multi line phones for as little as $100 each and be set.

Today's technology has allowed them to put all the works in the phones with no processor required.

BTW, PBX is ancient technology, you definately don't want to go that route

Try here:

I bought the 4 line version, works great.

I have some reading up to do I guess, never really paid attention to that, somaybe we can scratch out remote paging.. didn't know they went for as high at 5-10K range

but I guess they want to do interoffice calling? or someting like that, probably have the secratery answer and send all the calls to the right etx.

Easy to do with a $100-150 phone. Just have one person answer calls. They all have hold, speakerphone, and anything else you may need.

I have a mainstream business where I could sell you a $10,000 system, but the reality is that in most cases you don't need that processor, and can get away with just multi-line phones.

Now, one benefit of a system with a processor is that you can have 8 lines with 16 extensions, while the $100 phone is only going to give you say 4 lines, which means while you may have 5 extensions, only 4 of them can be used at any one time.

Depends on your needs.

okay, not sure what you mean by that. like two extensions in the same office being able to talk to each other over their phones?

Say the secretary being able to put the caller on hold, then tell you that there is a call on line one for you? easily done with the $100 phone.

Otherwise, I need to know what you mean by that

Nothing a cheap PC, Asterisk and some cheap SIP phones can't solve.
