FTC Spyware Workshop conference

http://news.com.com/2100-7343_3-5194...?tag=nefd.lede

Got back from DC earlier today. Spyware is really becoming a huge problem for everyone, ALREADY costing businesses billions of dollars.
some of the stories I heard there from the panel experts are..
1. One expert had to format his hard-drive and reinstall everything because a spyware program took over his machine. Took him five days to reinstall all his apps again.

A mother of one of the panel members' used a "reverse" option to remove spyware

12% of Dell's customer support is spyware related, each call is long. It costs dell allot of money and is hurting their brand as users blame them anyways and fee las Dell computers are the source of the problems.

Some broadband users are going back to dial ups because they feel they have less risk with dial ups.

90% of computers online are infected

The government and the industry do not agree on what is spyware. Some adware companies want to call themselves differently although they are involved in spyware activities.

MS has a plan to help fight spyware in the new service pack they will release. From what I saw, this won't change a thing.

Mcafee, Norton, get more complaints about spyware then viruses.

Spyware makers are adding up to 4k new data entries to their signature files every month.

Our site spyware.com and our new app are coming soon. We are learning allot about the user's needs to make something unique to fight spyware.

yep it sucks.... so bad that someone I didn't know that found out I knew a lot about computers recently contacted me to unhijack their browser and shit... I spent a few hours with no luck running a bunch of programs with no luck... finally someone told me about hijackthis and that did the trick! I have been seeing a lot of posts on message boards about it lately.....

spyware.com ??

Double popup on entry?...and in "Top software sites" there
are links to key-loggers, Hypnosis, and other bullshit like stop-sign.com
where a popup install request on entry exists.

More bullshit like pestscan where they want you to install an applet to
scan for spyware and in the end if it shows any spyware there is no
option to kill it but there *is* a link to show you where you can buy
pestscan to install.

These guys are worse that spyware ad-men. Long live Spybot
and Ad-aware who distribute and update their software for FREE!
