strobi 04-20-2004 04:48 PM

rickholio 04-20-2004 04:54 PM

Oh man, that is sweet looking... maybe I've finally found a new home for all my Nikkor lenses...

JohnW 04-20-2004 04:59 PM

Fuji S1 Pro all the way you bitches...

but ya, the D70 is sweet, but about $500 more than the Rebel up here in Vancouver...
Rebel is still the best "value" for a real mans camera, IMHO.

DOES more! The D70 has a Large Scale Integrated Circuit processor that improves color accuracy, and white balance while reducing noise. It's got a Dynamic Buffer that enables it to continuoysly capture 144 normal-large JPEGs at 3 fps. The rebel can't touch that. An even better benchmark is that the D70 can capture up to 14 images at 3 fps in fine-large JPEG mode, compared to four images at 2.5 fps for the Rebel. AND, the D70 can capture up to your RAW+JPEG images SIMULTANEOUSLY at 3 fps... the rebel can't do them simultaneously. The D70 is faster than the rebel.. It has a max shutter speed of 1/8000, the rebel can only do 1/4000. The D70 has a higher flash sync (1/500). That's not even half of the features that blow the rebel out of the water. The D70 is comperable to the next model up in the Nikon line, and it is over $1500 cheaper. IN fact, some of it's features outstrip the D100 even.

Yeah, with lens it's $200 more than the Rebel... However, the 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G AF-S DX lens that comes with the kit has a wider field of view, a greater max focal length of 70mm, and better low-light performance with it's maximum f/4.5 aperture at full tele. Now only that, but the onboard flash is better, among other things..... well worth a few hundred extra.

*shrug*

It all depends on what lenses you already own. Even if they were the same price, I would have bought the Canon because Laura already had lenses for it from her film camera.

D70 is more expensive, doesn't do ISO100 and check the sharpening in the sample photos :(

The Canon is a better camera...:thumbsup

s0laris2 04-20-2004 05:21 PM

Nikon all the way..

I would not look anywhere else

Generally Nikon and Canon lenses are interchangeable.

Lower quality photos but more point and shoot features (in camera flash, :throwup )

I dunno about that.. From the test shots I've seen, Rebel doesn't produce anything the D70 can't produce.

pussyluver 04-20-2004 05:57 PM

Different class, but the Nikon Coolpix 8700 appears to fit my needs. Guess you could call it a high end point and shoot.

Have had it a couple of weeks now. Almost know how to use it :Graucho .

Not a content provider, but do shoot some limited content. The lens is 8x and the camera can produce 8 mega pixels in Nikon RAW, TIFF and Jpeg formats.

I have to shoot parties, some adult content and a wide range of other subjects. So this single camera fits a ton of needs.

The Canon is more sensitive (it's dpreview's 'benchmark', ie. D70 didn't beat it....) and doesn't produce nasty moire patterns like the 5th and 6th image from the top http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond70/page21.asp If your shooting in JPG (lossy compression) I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I'm not getting into gay little fights about who makes the best camera. I worked at a camera shop for years, and both Canon and Nikon make excellent cameras. I got my Digital Rebel a few months ago and I love it. I'm building up my lenses and when the time comes, I'll get a better body. But no matter how much people seem to bitch about the differences between the two....BOTH of them can do MORE THAN ENOUGH for anything doing with websites.

These are a few pics I took when I was driving cross country from Baltimore -> Los Angeles back in January (taken with the Canon 300D Rebel)

yeah, both are good manufacturers and either would do for most needs.
