How do I measure the speed of a connection?

I have some dedicated servers and I think one of them is not the 25 mbps that is agreed on cause it loads kind of slow for me. Is there some indepent tool to measure this?

Test stuff locally to ensure it's not the server hardware (buffer read/hahahahaha tests to HD) prior to testing the network. Testing for ~25mbit wouldn't be the easiest - start testing different areas via FTP and have your provider check their switch and your NIC for issues in Duplex/MTU mismatch and all that jazz.

Thank you. I appreciate the input.:)

Find some large files on your network or closeby, and start downloading those?

That would also work to determine if there is a NIC->Switch issue - as long as you're talking thru the same switch. Hard drive read/hahahahaha tests should always be done first before you start testing networks (both local, and internet bound).
