Lower-carb Coke on the way
http://money.cnn.com/2004/04/19/news/fortune500/coke/
No. 1 soft-drink firm looks to take advantage of diet craze with C2. April 19, 2004: 4:20 PM EDT NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Coca-Cola Co. said Monday it will launch a soft-drink with half the carbohydrates of traditional colas this summer as the world's largest soft-drink firm looks to capitalize on the low-carb diet craze. "Consumers are the true architects of this idea," said Coke's (KO: Research, Estimates) CEO Doug Daft in a statement. "Coca-Cola C2 was created to specifically address their desire for a lower-calorie cola." A Coca-Cola spokesman would not give specific dates for the roll-out of the new drink, but told Reuters it would appear in stores across the United States before the planned late summer launch of Pepsi Edge, PepsiCo Inc.'s (PEP: Research, Estimates) low calorie cola. The Atlanta-based company said it will release Coca-Cola C2 first in Japan and then in the United States. Industry newsletter Beverage Digest, which was first to report the roll-out of Coca-Cola C2 Monday, said the drink would make its U.S. debut on June 16. Coca-Cola C2 will arrive at a time when Coca-Cola is working feverishly to revitalize sluggish soft drink sales in North America, the largest and most important market for Coca-Cola and its nearest rival PepsiCo. Over the past few years, Coca-Cola has broadened the scope of its flagship product with Vanilla Coke, Diet Coke with Lemon and Diet Coke with Lime. It's also made a push into the non-carbonated sector with products like Dasani water, Minute Maid fruit juices and Powerade sports drinks. |
no carbs but 54g of sugars, wont make a difference.
|
54 grams of sugar... :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh
|
Isn't diet coke pretty low carb?
:rasta |
They already have those, they call them diet drinks.
|
...s'not like folk with a real coke problem are worried about losing weight, stupid idea; most heads are real skinny to start with.

... ... .. .. . 0,1 grams of carbohydrates in 100grams / 1 deciliter of drink. 0 grams of sugars. For some odd reason I just feel this is a publicity stunt.. or they're just goddamn stupid. :) |

Wow thats a lot of sugar

This is Dumb
On low carb diets you are not aloud any sugar!! |
people are so fucking lazy. it would be so much simpler to just use the "go to the fucking gym" diet. yet people are going to research how many carbs are in every damn thing they eat.. if you just go to the damn gym and work hard it wont matter if you drink high carb soda all damn day.
|
whoooooooooooooooooooooooa....thank god they are coming out with this....All i can say i was just about to stop drinking coke because the carb intake was just too much. the 1000 calories or so didnt bother me but the carbd really fucking got to me.
Those guys must be paying some of those execs pretty damB good to have figured this one out.. :2 cents: :Graucho |

Arent the olympics and world cup this year?
Coca-Cola is the offical drink of both. Perfect marketing. |
I wonder if it will taste like "New Coke". I saw the Coca-Cola Classic logo the other day and asked my wife if she remembered New Coke. That stuff was nasty.
|
When I worked at a soda fountain, our vanilla cokes were popular but our best seller was chocolate coke. I'm suprised they haven't started marking chocolate Coke yet.

If people want low carb/low sugar just drink diet.. |
It'll probably flop just like new coke did :2 cents:
|
Depending on what it tastes like, I would probably drink it (unless it tasted like shit).
Where does it say 54g of sugar? I didn't read that in the article. On Atkins, yes, you shouldn't be drinking Coke...but those not on Atkins, people who want to reduce the amount of carbs they eat, it might be a good alternative. And why not diet? I think Diet Coke tastes like shit and I don't like the fact there are chemicals that make it taste sweet. So, yeah, I'd try it... |
I hope as they keep adding flavors one of them will taste like Cokes did before New Coke. When they brought back the "original formula" they switched from sugar to high fructose corn syrup and the taste has never been the same. They also seem to have a shorter shelf life. When I buy several 2 liters I try to pick some with different dates and can usally taste a noticible difference from one to the next.
The CocaCola company should take away the right of some fountain venders to display the Coke logo on their machines.:glugglug :repuke |

What I don't like about most diet sodas is that too many of them seem like they overcompensated for being diet by using too much sweetner and end up tasting sweeter (in that chemical sort of way) than their non-diet counterparts. When Diet Dr. Pepper was all saccarain sweetened and in the purple can, I could drink that. The stuff they have now no way. |

All other diet sodas repulse me... But what am I saying? I have been trying to stop drinking soda, period. I've cut down, but haven't cut it out completely. It's tough. Coffee was easy. Soda isn't. :( |
