I'm taking Lensman's advice.

I don't want any customs hassles like SleazyDream had so I am putting a fresh OS install on my laptop before heading to Europe.

Let them look through that shit all they like....No porn or financial records whatsoever. :glugglug

bcooter 04-18-2004 11:26 AM

good idea. I wouldn't even have thought of that.

Digipimp 04-18-2004 11:27 AM

vas 04-18-2004 11:33 AM

get a program called bestcrypt.... will save you a lot of hassles.. creates a virtual drive where you dump all of your sensitive info in... its strongly encrypted so they'll have fun trying ot break into it, and it also becomes hidden if you want it to.

pretty sweet program... try it out...

DreamCumTrue 04-18-2004 11:34 AM

Thought you were repenting today

tbabe 04-18-2004 11:34 AM

Morgan 04-18-2004 11:40 AM

Im sure that's exactly what Aaron is trying to do. Have customs keep him there for hours while they play investigator.

And then they think you have a small gun in hidden in your crotch. That'd work out well. :thumbsup

Cheers,

It always amazes me how ignorant governments are about technology and how the internet works. One can easily have CP on a box and never know.

Because I am also loading a few select programs...ICQ and so forth...And I don't want to pack that much more shit around with me...Plus...I will not have time to install everyting once I am there.

Good idea

I've been considering this situation in advance of some travel plans coming up this summer. Its looking like i'll image the harddrive out to my iPod and format the system.

Then once at destination, hahahahaha the image back to the harddisk and I'm back to full working order.

I doubt they'd be clever enough to work out that I might be carrying the entire contents of my computer on the mp3 player.. ;)

torrey 04-18-2004 12:15 PM

Keychain Memory Device for all your most inportant stuff when traveling. :2 cents:

Nbritte 04-18-2004 12:31 PM

Use nortons ghost to ghost an image burn it on a dvd then format and install the new OS ghost the new OS and burn it on a second dvd. when you get where you are going ghost your original back to the laptop when you get ready to leave ghost the clean os to the laptop. Using nortons ghost takes about 30 minutes for 4 gigs of data

Chris 04-18-2004 12:38 PM

formating does cover anything

Ross 04-18-2004 12:39 PM

You'll be ok when you get to Glasgow airport. I came through with my laptop no problem. And when coming back from vegas Paul walked through no problem with his laptop.

you were lucky
thats it

username 04-18-2004 01:41 PM

goodluck

stev0 04-18-2004 01:42 PM

Isn't there just some form you are supposed to fill out before you go on a trip so the gov't doesnt think you bought the laptop out of the country?

I can't see how they would have any right to search your HD.

the drive becomes invisible once its unloaded, they wont even know its there.

beemk 04-18-2004 04:00 PM

encrypting would be dumb. it would just raise red flags like you're hiding something and you would get hassled 10x as much.

Lykos 04-18-2004 04:12 PM

Good idea definitly:winkwink:
