Does your host do daily/weekly/monthly backups on your servers?

Data backup is critical....Just as important as a solid network and kick ass support.

Oh and the host not informing you immediately that a hardware failure had occoured and a backup restoration had taken place is BULLSHIT. Over 300k uniques have 404'd and we had no idea!

We aren't happy, that's for sure, we're still trying to assess the damages and the long term effects such as partner account loss and blacklists due to redirection.

Unfortunately, we don't have the 6 days of data to restore ourselves, so it continues to 404 and remains out of our hands.

I don't think I'll name the host since they're taking steps to make it up to us (One would hope with a 5k a month bill eh?) but yeah, I just needed to vent.

5k/month and they werent doing daily backups? Were they supposed to being daily backups? If so, then they should give you the next few months of hosting free, at least!

I have a few hosts. One time I needed back up, for a small fee all my files reappeared. :) The others I don't know though they claim it.

Im guessing your doing about 100mbit maybe more and are a decent customer.
They should def have you all hooked up and doing daily backups

We do weekly backups twice a week on all our servers in case of catastrophic loss. We also offer optional backup plans to all our customers. In the absence of this option we will charge a restoration fee.

I also think at 5,000/month your host would minimally disclose their policy regarding this matter in detail and eliminate any misunderstandings.

You should sue them for dammages and interest ... They owe you big time . Possibility of getting black listed on the hun can be worth many thousands.

it's not hard to find out who they are, but for you to spend that much monthly and they told you that they were doing what they said and not, i would move...i'm on a virtual so i would just soak it up as a loss and say you get what you pay for...but you're spending a nice amount and they basically lied and this is your livelyhood, so :321GFY them
