Just Saw "The Punisher"
 

Okay, so this is a must see movie!

It's got some scenes in it that if you're squeamish just stay home.

Suprisingly dang good acting and lots of comedy!

It's not the Punisher I remember from Marvel Comics but what it lacks from the books it makes up in charm and character plus some scenes of payback that are just downright sinister.

Lots of good scenes. LOTS of good scenes.

Worth the money and time and some memorable lines.

Frank Castle was a very "dark" character with Marvel.

Always over the edge but ever so slightly in control and truth be told he never killed anyone that didn't deserve killing.

What "Justice" really wants to be sometimes.

Ian, it wasn't dark at all which was the suprise! I remember when the Punisher first appeared. When he shot those web shooters offa Spiderman's wrists that told us he was no one to bullshit with!

Then in the 80's when Mike Zeck did that comeback series which for my money was one of the best series ever, we were stoked for more Punisher.

Problem is too many guys copy Miller with that 'dark brooding dude' thingie that got tired quick.

This flick won't win any awards at the Cannes Film Festival but there are scenes worth watching again. Especially two freaking 'ewwww' scenes involving a torture and a stabbing. The most vicious stabbing I've ever seen in a film because it's up close and ... no, you gotta see this shit.

It's logistics are way off base. No one could do what Frank Castle does in this movie and get away with it. Suspension of disbelief goes out the hahahahahaha when he just does something at a police precinct.

But what makes this film is the supporting characters and funny ass ironic fight scenes and humorous quips.

The critics are bashing it to death BUT mark my words, some of the performances are just gems.

Sure I wish it was the kick ass no holds barred Punisher who struck fear in the hearts of criminals in the books but this Punisher is a bit more human, like his fate is being guided by some humorous hand on high. Plus the lead actor reminds me too much of Christopher Lambert but he does the humor thing very well.

It's not a big budget monster but more of a personal story and should have taken place in NY where it originally did but I guess the costs were too high.

The Punisher was cool in comics because he had no superpowers and no secret identity. He just did-not-give-a-fuck and tore shit up whenever he wanted.

Remember this line:

"God's gonna sit this one out."

It's neat popcorn stuff but again, watch the supporting cast and the music is cool too.

Miller rules... Zeck is pretty fucking tits too but Frankie is my all time favorite.

I just got back from the movie. Big time Punisher fan so I guess I expected to much. I wish they would have made him darker. They were way off the original story line, but it was a good flick. The Russian was cool.

Pick it up, it's a good read. Ennis created all the supporting cast. Spacker Dave, Joan the Mouse, the fat dude (Bumpo?), The Russian, etc. around 2002.

Aww, I've been waiting so long for this movie. I was hoping they would make it dark and tortured, like the Spawn (McFarlane) series and first movie. So much for that hope. :(

Yo, that fight scene between the Punisher and the 'Russian' ( they coulda come up with a better name geez, just piss off the Russian cousins whydontcha' ) was awesome!

When he came breakin' through that door and started kickin' the Punisher's ass we were glued to our seats. An unexpected suprise to say the least.

Ain't read the Ennis Punisher books. Got tired of the Punisher damn near 15 years ago because the character just didn't go where we wanted as fans. To me this movie wasn't 'THE' Punisher but it just had a weird charm to it.

Back in the day, the Punisher books were so scary the mobsters and cops in NY were terrified that someone would copycat him. So if you got caught reading a Punisher book or wearing a t-shirt people gave you a wide berth big time because they didn't know what the fuck you might do next.

That charm may be it's saving grace in the long run. Depends on how the public reacts. Die hard Punisher fans might not like it but as die hard a Punisher fan I was I've got mixed feelings but more in the positive range than negative.

Like I said, it won't win film awards but it's good popcorn fare just to get some real good laughs.

Did anyone see the first Punisher? I thought Dolph Lundgren played a pretty believable frank castle. :ak47:

Travolta has always been one of my all time fav. actors. I definitely want to go see this flick now !:)

Sure did! The first Punisher movie wasn't that bad at all! It was very good far as I'm concerned and Dolph Lungren did an awesome job as Frank Castle!

The movie would have been a blockbuster success and ushered in a new wave of superhero movies except for ONE BIG MISTAKE:


THE PRODUCERS CHANGED HIS COSTUME!

If you make a movie about 'Batman' do you take the bat insignia off his chest?

So for some dumb ass reason known only to psychics and the seven dwarves they took the giant white skull which is the PUnisher's trademark off his costume so you're sitting there watching the entire fucking movie wondering,

"Hey, who is this dark vengeful dude with mega weapons that crimelords fear? "

So because they broke the cardinal rule of comics to film adaptation which is:

DON'T FUCK WITH THE STORY OR COSTUMES

That movie failed.

In this case they kept the costume and barebones the storyline but changed the setting from NY to Tampa, FL ( so I kept thinking I was watching a missing episode of Miami Vice).

They also made the character more 'sensitive'.

Whether these gambles will pay off will be determined by audience reaction and box office sales and DVD sales.

Catwoman without 'Batman' is a bad idea.

Why these movie guys can't just make the movie without fucking with stuff is beyond me. After 50+ years of following a simple fucking formula they can't help but want to fuck something up.

The simple formula is:

DON'T FUCK WITH THE STORY, CHARACTERS AND COSTUMES

But NooOOOooo, there's gotta be that 'girlfriend of the producer's third cousin twice removed who needs to have some input into something she had no fucking clue about but can do it because her uncle on her mother's side knows a good golf club to join' thingie involved.

The 'Hulk' is a prime example. WTF were they thinking about when they made this piece of shit? The Hulk is about a guy who turns into a rampaging menace with the mind of a child whenever he's attacked or innocent people get attacked.

But NoooOOOOOo, somebody figured it would be better to turn it into some psychomelodrama bullshit that no one could under-fucking-stand about child abuse and shit.

I completely agree with you on this one. The Hulk was WAYYYY too long and drawn out... give us a Spiderman action flick instead and it would've done SOOO much better....

Sticking with the background and origin of comic book characters and superhero's is the only way to go..

I enjoyed Dolph as the first Punisher even though I did not like his non-skull shirt. It has action and tongue-in-cheek humor. I want to see the new version of Punisher but most likely will wait until it comes out on DVD. Too bad nobody thought of putting out a movie based on one of the Punsiher's uncle, Mack Bolen aka the Executioner (now that would be one sexy and violent movie).

I loved Spider-Man but was a bit disappointmented with the Hulk. The X-Men was okay (I have yet to watch the second one) and thought Daredevil could have been better. They were all entertaiing but Spider-Man was the only one that made me go "holy shit, somebodu actually wanted to please the fans").

Marvel is turning out the movies like no tomorrow (Man-Thing and Blade: Trinity is down the line) but DC is starting to get on the ball. Christian Bale as Batman is going to rock but Catwoman is going to flop. Halle Berry is pretty to look at and she was okay as Storm. The movie Catwoman is so far removed from the comic that I could not see why they could not just have given her a different name ("Feline Fury" would have sufficed). The costume looks like something that a bdsm dominitrix threw out after a session in the dungeon.

BTW, I like Comics 2 Film for my comic movie news.

Perhaps that's why I like it so much................

X-men 2 is just a wild rush ride.. if you liked Spidey then you should enjoy X2.

Daredevil I thought could've been a Spiderman type success story if they'd given a bit more storyline and released a different time than Feb 14th

The Punisher ffffffucked his shit up! That was some evil-ass sinister payback shit. He got owned big time.

I mean there's payback but what he did to Travolta's character 'Mr. Saint' was fucking lowdown cruel enough for me to say that was some evil ass shit. And then he made it artistically correct at the end.

That's what I mean about this movie. It won't please the movie critics, might please some fans but it did have scenes in it that were memorable because the actors had enough charm to make them memorable.

The director wasn't that bad at all. I think what happened here is that too many cooks might have spoiled the broth. Usually happens with superhero movies. Yet I'ld watch this again just for the supporting actors and comedy.

Now, 'Man-Thing' was my shiznit as a kid! I couldn't wait for each month's 'Man Thing' comic. I remember how every issue some fuck nut would end up in the swamps fucking something up or stealing something and somehow Man Thing would show up and serve his ass.

He came out before Swamp Thing and Marvin the Dead Thing and was cooler for my money. Man Thing didn't talk, didn't crack jokes, he was just a trapped soul in an industructible body of muck but if you had fear in your heart you would burn at his touch.

They even introduced 'Howard the Duck' in a Man Thing comic once. Big hit.

DC comics has always had success in the films because it was like un-American to fuck with their storylines. DC heroes were like 20+ years older and part of the National consciousness than Marvel heroes. Marvel Comics heroes were the kind of people you would meet in a half-way house for strung out lost causes.

Here's a test to prove my point. Ask 5 people about Superman. What planet did he come from? What is his secret identity? Who is his girlfriend? Where does he work? Who is his arch enemy?

10 out of 10 people will know the answers to these questions.

Now ask the same people to name the President's cabinet members.

Well bad or good according to boxofficemojo.com the film has hit it's halfway mark in sales. Didn't know it was that cheap to make. Was suprised to see it made $14 mill this weekend.
