Okay, I saw The Punisher... (Spoilers)
Aside from the drunks behind us laughing and the morons smoking cigarettes in the non-smoking section of the theater, I enjoyed it. It's definitely the Garth Ennis version of the Punisher circa 2001 in the comics, not the 1980s Punisher.
There's a lot of humor in the movie and a lot of grisly death scenes, but really, I thought the death count was a little low for a Punisher movie. He only killed maybe 20 people. Hopefully the sequel takes it up a notch to maybe 200.
I thought it stayed fairly true to the comic although they messed with his origin a little bit (not a Viet Nam vet anymore). And instead of the mob killing his wife and kid(s), some mobster types kill his entire family at their reunion...cousins, aunts, uncles, his parents, everyone.
I liked it a lot better than Hellboy. It was campy but I like my Punisher stories with a bit of humor. The fight scene with The Russian is great, almost copied from his fight in the comics. Some of the death scenes are pretty creative. All in all, if you've read a Punisher comic book in the last 5 years, I think you'll like this movie. If you haven't read the comics, you'll probably still like this movie. It's similar to Rambo...one dude with great fighting skills taking on a small army.
