Jets over Austin (pic)

If any of you guys are in the Austin area this weekend and dig radio controlled jets, there is a big jet rally this weekend. Tons of jet pilots from around the country are coming.

Im going down there tomorrow and Saturday.
here's the press release they sent.:

Fourteenth Annual Central Texas Radio Controlled Jet Rally April 17th and 18th.

The Austin Remote Control Association is hosting Radio Controlled jet pilots from across the nation at their local field North of Decker Lake.

The event runs all weekend long. Photo/Video opportunity Friday afternoon.

2004 marks the 15th year of presenting this event free to spectators.

?Pilots? from as far away as Colorado and Mississippi will be in attendance.

Lester Field, the flying site, is located North of the Expo Center at 8705 Lindell lane.

Modelers from Austin were pioneers in this facet of the hobby and continue to push the envelope. Models powered by micro-turbines will be f lying high all weekend long. The workmanship on these models is incredible, then to see them fly over 200 mph is breathtaking.:

depends on the kit and engine setup. This plane with a ducted fan would run about 1500$ ready to fly.

A turbine setup would run about $3500

Just the engine alone is going to run you about $2k, but there is a huge market for used jets that can run anywhere from 300 bucks up to $20,000 depending on size. Helicopters run from $600 - $2000 for a 2 stroke or up to $10,000 for a jet powered helicopter.
BTW here is what a $20,000 jet looks like
