Who here watermarks TGP images?

Pretty simple really, if you watermark it and it's stolen it works as an ad back to your site. The chances are it will not get stolen by someone looking for free content, they will move on.

You can put it into the image pretty easily and if it's translucent it will not detract from the images. Some freeloaders may complain but who gives a fuck about them?

yeah thats if you're promoting your own site. but most of the gallery submitters are just affiliates.

But don't the own a URL?

They can put their own URL on an image and if it's stolen it sends traffic back to them.

If you'r a pysite giving out content or hosting galleries it seems natural to do it, every stolen image is an advert back to your site.

If you're psting that stuff you really have little choice and the more traffic that arrives atyour sponsor the more he may think of giving you as a %.

If you are putting up your own TGPs then you can reap the benefit by directing traffic straight back to your site and getting another chance to send it to a sponsor.

Tomorrow I willalter our Paul Markham Content Store license so that all content posted on TGP sites is watermarked, with the site it's hosted on or the site it's aimed at.

Trying to cut down content theft.

Noit will say any content from www.paulmarkham.com you want to put up on TGPsa nd other freesites will need a URL watermark. Inside your site is not a problem, but if you want to supplt thieves with free content that cannot be traced then fine up to you.

I need to protect my clients who are buying content and seeing it pirated on the freesites.

Only problem with branding your content with a url is some TGPs will reject it because they don't like the url on there.

Most places will accept it though. The advantages you mention or greater than the disadvantages.

But it doesn't stop people from stealing my content. They just put their watermark over mine after blacking mine out.

Paul Markham 04-15-2004 10:42 PM

Good points Rictor, but it will be on our better stuff only and that is not supposed tobe all over freesites.

And it will show very quickly that the image is stolen. TGP site owners and sponsors will know straight away.

I've done that for a few gallery campaigns.. a long time ago.. barley visible to the naked eye type stuff though.

I always put the url on the images, so that if after 2 months the surfer goes through his pic collection and likes the pic, he can go back to my site and hopefully sign up.

cool URL

BVF 05-05-2004 08:53 AM

I watermark every single last image that I put on the internet...ONly some russians have been bold enough to blatantly steal my work and put it up on their gallery. I knew because a TGP owner notified me when he saw my URL on the pics.

I even watermark pics in a way where they can't be cropped out without fucking up the pics. So that means having part of the URL on the model's skin....Because of this, I will never get my galleries accepted at the Hun but I also don't have to worry about image stealing.
