So my gf found out she has a potentially bad disease

shes been noticing for the past several months that her fingernails and toenails have been turning a noticably darker blue color, they get cold, then dark, then it goes away... so she decided to go to the doctor and see what exactly it was.. .and he said hes pretty certain it is "Raynaud's Disease" (or Raynaud's Phenomenon)... approximately 5 to 13% of females have it. So it doesn't seem too serious... But there are 2 versions of it, primary and secondary... Secondary is much worse, because it means she probably has another disease (or cancer) such as lupus or leukemia. Primary just means it happened from an unknown cause (most have the primary version and it is treatable by keeping them warm, exercising, not smoking, etc etc)

anyhow, either way, this disease increases your risk to contract those other diseases like lupus or leukemia (by about 9%). she got blood work done and we'll know what exactly she has within a couple days. but people usually only get an "attack" once every couple weeks.. the attacks are pretty much painless.. shes getting a couple attacks every day which is very scary..

when you love someone so much, and you're faced with even a small possibility that they might contract cancer or a more serious disease, DAMN does that suddenly put life into perspective. and it definitely makes you realize you take a lot of things for granted.

i know a lot of you probably have experienced similar situations and probably can relate. i just needed to get it off the chest, i'm gonna be really worried until we get the results back... damn, human nature is a bitch.

Good luck to you. I couldn't imagine having to fear for my girlfriend's life. Whatever you do, be supportive and keep her mind off of it. Sometimes the mind is a powerful tool in overcoming a serious health problem.

My ex girlfriend has a rare blood disease that could potentically turn into leukemia. Isn't a good feeling at all. She had the disease since she was born, it's very rare and not many people have it, but most turn into cancer, ex girlfriend or not, I still love her and hope it doens't turn into something bad.

When she was 2 years old, she had to wear leg braces and couldn't walk on her own for almost a year. It's sick what kind of problems and diseases have been created that we can't control.

ICQ me. I have some experience with that.

I hope she's okay. News like this is terrifying. Several years ago I was told that I may have cervical cancer. They said my results were "moderately dysplastic" which they said is one step away from cancer, it's pretty bad. I had another one a few months ago with the same result, but I have neither the time or money to go back and get a biopsy. Whatever you do, make sure she gets to the doctor. She'll be in my thoughts.
