Good questions... not sure on the answers. Many will be greay areas when many were doing the same thing.

goBigtime 04-12-2004 05:53 AM

Hmm this sucks... Archive.org doesn't appear to be accurate back ~ 1997 and before.

The first sexswap newsletter is dated July 14, 1997

But Archive.org indexed the first Sexswap site on June 30, 1998.

Ah... I guess it took them that long to find it :)

Hmmm yeah it might be pretty hard to prove a lot of those early ones.

goBigtime 04-12-2004 05:55 AM

Wow persian kitty was hardcore...

the first Archive.org entry for her was December 1996.

The first entry for "TheHun.com" was december 02, 1998... but didn't thehun.com have a different domain before that?

some_idiot 04-12-2004 05:56 AM

Think I've got first 640x480 live stage cam from a strip club.

1996, The Fabulous Forum, London Ontario Canada.

Custom software under FreeBSD, ISDN line to a reflector in
Toronto on a T1.

As far as I know it was the 2nd live stage cam of any size.

Yeah I forgot to put first "live" show on the list.

What site was it streamed to?

Zebra 04-12-2004 06:10 AM

I was very early in the toplist game in late '96. Only ones I remember before me were Cliffies and Adult Origin. I had my first adult domain oad.com doing 100k+ a day in Nov. '96 but archive.org doesn't even show it until Oct 1999.

Robin Nixon was one of the first to use pop-ups with abc-web.com in very early '97.

SO many of the others are just a distant memory. Too many miles and over 100+ shows tend to blur time.

Herb Kornfield 04-12-2004 06:14 AM

Interesting info here indeed......cant wait to see all the answers

Yeah I think this thread might be screwed for the stuff that happend before 96/97. I think ARchive.org was doing a very slow crawl back then. Back before people thought (or saw the value of) using 100+ computers to index the web.

YES! Robin Nixon was definitely one of the big innovators in the industry. I remember he would test banner and site conversions and be able to tell you within a few minutes how well it would do (because he had insane amounts of traffic back then).

Pornopat 04-12-2004 06:21 AM

I think the first tgp out there was actually Adult Buffet.

I think this is SexSwap.... But Andy would know for sure.

I remember there was AdultSwap, but I'm not sure if they were before SexSwap or not.

GoGoBar 04-12-2004 06:35 AM

The answer to all of these questions is LikeWhoa.

LAJ 04-12-2004 08:31 AM

The YNOT adult Network was the first adult webmaster resource site and chat hangout... established 1996.

i was working at igallery in 1996 and they took credit for the first affiliate program (called hypercash at the time). not just for adult but for the whole internet.

also advertising on pop ups they took credit for being the first to ever do that. in fact they even tried to copyhahahahaha the code that they used.

they were forrunners for a lot of things but there were a lot of big players at the beginning.

goBigtime 04-12-2004 09:42 AM

Hmm yeah I remember Hypercash.

Didn't know they were around in 96 though.

Igallery is one of the first companies I remember offering content plug-ins as well.

Lucy 04-12-2004 09:52 AM

sorry no idea, but waiting for the answeats.:Graucho

MarkTiarra 04-12-2004 07:58 PM

I'm gonna take a stab at some of these. I was around in 96 but it's tough to remember and sometimes it's just who I saw first.

Launch an adult TOPLIST?

The first top lists I saw were YNOT and Cliffie.

Launch an adult TGP?

The Hun.

Launch a public pay-per-click affiliate program?

Amateur Hardcore was the first I saw but I know others where there.

Launch a public pay-per-signup affiliate program?

Launch a public pay-per-raw affilliate program?

Launch a public partnership/profit sharing program?

Cyberotica was the first I recall seeing doing anything but pay per click. Per sign and revshare I first saw with them.

Launch an adult site counter?

Wasn't that the Jonathen guy with XXX Counter or something like that?

Be publicly accused of cheating webmasters?

I think probably Seth of Club Love with his IEG program.

Organize an adult internet convention?

IA 2000 was the show for Audiotext (900 #s) and the big audiotext guys started doing adult which led to the crossover and us Internet guys going to their show. I still remember some AT guys being pissed at Internet people coming to their show.

Offer an adult banner exchange?

The guy who had Adult Oriented Site of the Day started stuff like this from what I remember.

Start a single-girl site?

First ones I saw were Carol Cox and Janey.

Cater to/Specialize in adult web design?

When I launched my design company there were a few others, most notably Mike Wylde. He was among the very first I think.

Offer plug-in content (of any kind) to webmasters?

Python was among the first. I remember speaking to David Vanderpool when it was just an idea he had.

Start a webmaster resource site?

YNOT under the ownership of Kid Slick (Rick).

Start at webmaster forum/BBS?

Again YNOT.

Bounce an affiliate check?

I've got a 3 cent check from IEG that bounced. WHat's sadder is we put a 3 cent check in the deposit bin!

Offer to pay webmasters over $50 for a signup?

I remember all the wild numbers popping up. The highest ones I remember seeing early where when ARS jumped on but I know there were others. The big question is what is your check at the end of the month? Who cares how much it is per sign. I wanna know how much I make per month with someone.

Use pop-UP exit consoles?

Robin Nixon started the ABC dealio. That was the first I knew.

Start a snail-mailed magazine or newsletter for the adult industry?

AVN or the IA2000 one maybe.

Offer 3rd party processing for adult webmasters?

Wasn't DMR the first? Also known as Web800.

Offer legal services for adult webmasters?

There were lawyers working when UAS started but it was the first organization trying to offer generalized legal stuff for everyone that I know of.

Doctor Dre 04-12-2004 07:59 PM

Offer free adult hosting? = porncity I think

JesseD 04-12-2004 08:00 PM

We need to break up that list into 10 different threads! Too long

Yep Mark, I would say you pretty much nailed it...and brought back a lot of memories for me too.

Amateur Hardcore and CE were among the first two programs that I ever promoted.

Be publicly accused of cheating webmasters?
I would have to say that it was Serge accusing Ron, or Ron accusing Serge - some of the best pissing matches EVER were between the two of them back in the day on YNot.

Re, IA2000.... "I still remember some AT guys being pissed at Internet people coming to their show." HAHAHA...I remember that too. But the smart AT guys decided to join us on the internet side and several of them are now the big players online.

Offer an adult banner exchange?
I'm not sure if they were first...but Adult Buffet was one of the first.

Offer plug-in content (of any kind) to webmasters?
Yep, Python was definitely among the first, as was IGallery and 3I.

Use pop-UP exit consoles?
Robin Nixon started MANY firsts in the industry.

And I do believe that DMR/Web800 was the first to offer 3rd party processing for adult webmasters. I used First Bank of Beverly Hills to start my first membership site and then went to DMR.

It blows me away to think about how long ago all of this was....when it just seems like yesterday that Rick of YNot couldn't attend his own party at IA2000 because he wasn't old enough. LOL

ah, the good ol days. :)

Hmmmmmm... yeah maybe.

SexHound was also a counter early on. Not sure if they were before XXXCounter or not though. I would guess ...probably not.

But they were one of the first places I remember that offered a crude search of their counter client databases (I think).

There was also WSS/Hitbot for adult on the counter scene in the early days.

The Hun 04-14-2004 03:23 AM

I was NOT the first TGP... PK was the biggest in the early days, she might well have been the first TGP (back then they weren't called TGP's, that name came about 3-4 years ago)

AdultBuffet weren't the first, they were definately the biggest for a while untill they leased out their site to someone who put a console on there (first console ever was a company names '123' or 'abc' something something... can't remember ;-)

Pay per click was a BIG argument weather it was CE or AH (last thing I saw was Ron beat AH by a couple days)

Pay per sign up was Max Cash
