Must take alot of resources to let the search function run on a board of this size.

should be able to throttle usage with queues etc.. but yeah..

i dont blame them..search does eat alot up

Nice they've got it working.

As far as I know, vBulletin and most php BB's generate the search index every time a post is added, which of course on a board like this would be an immense load.

I've heard of people setting the search index to be a cron job instead, and run at low-usage hours, which seemed to work for them, but its good they've obviously figured out a solution here.
