i rolled a 1968 microbus on a mountain road (#3 hiway around manning park), a pack of bikers stopped and helped us push it back rightside up and it cruised all the way home (white rock)

Do yourself a favor and phone your nearest VW repair shop and ask
them how much to replace the exhaust system on one of those pieces
of shit. That's why everyone you see flops down the road makin' all
that fuckin' noise...none of the shitheads who own them can afford
to repair them so they just drive the thing with bad exhaust till the
heads heat up and the engine seizes.

that is a bus, not a van, and I used to own one when I was a hippy, back in 1971 . . . . traded it for my first H-D, a 1942 45" flathead chopper :thumbsup

those vehicles are just undestroyable...I owned one myself sold it in the end but it never stoped running :thumbsup

Fixing the exhaust system was no problem, just take a coffee can, split it down the middle, put it over the hole, and secure it with baling wire. Piece of cake.

The reason they siezed up had nothing to do with a faulty muffler, it had to do with not adjusting your valves.

I surf and wanted something big enough to throw boards in, plus something to travel in or pop some beach girls cherry in the back...

i owned one for the summer after graduating high school, it was a mint 1976 bright orange with a canopy top. My parents stole it from the owner at a garage sale for only $400. The timing belt was the only thing that needed to be replaced, that was like $200 i beleive. i partied like a mad man in that van, it made for a summer to remember... the cooler/fridge was always stocked with long necks.

the one bad thing about it was that in high wind conditions, the aerodynamics of the van pushed it around like a 5 pound weakling.

I had a VW Bus... Seated up to 11 party people...

Had some fun times in it...

I remember taking a bunch of people on float trips, we would inflate the rafts inside the bus on the way to the river.

Sold it for more than I paid!

haha, firstly, if someone COULD kick my ass, I'd like to see it. Second, the vans are great, I don't like hippies much, I think the van would be great for travelling and keeping my surfing gear in while still being able to take a few people along with

man i wish i had pics of it scanned in but from when i was born till about 6 years old my dad, whos a jack of all trades, actually tricked out one into a camper complete with a kitchen w/ usable sink, tv and comfortably slept all 5 of us when we'd go on road trips.
