My fish is dying :(
My goldfish of 6+ years is kicking the bucket. I tried everything, but now I'm going to let nature run its course :(
RIP Ripken :sadcrying |
How long do goldfish live? I didn't realize they lived that long. We haven't had fish in about 3 years. Dumped all of them in the lake when we moved and gave the tank to my brother. We want to move again so when we find a house that we plan on staying at for a long time we'll probably get a big tank and do the fish thing again.

That sucks. I didn't know that goldfish lived that long though; you must have been a good owner.
Named after Cal Ripken??? |
I bought a fish tank and about a dozen fish for my son several years ago. Most of the fish died within the first year, but this one goldfish lived for a long time.
I'm not even a big fish person, but I got really attached to this little fellow. He always knew when I was about to feed him and would look out at me through his tank while I was working in my home office. When I saw he was starting to have health problems I tried every recommendation I could find on the Net to help him. I got really bummed out when he finally died. Crazy how one little being can have an impact on you. Blessings going out for your fish Ripken. |
Add a little salt to the water
I used to own an aquarium shop.... and that sometimes worked as a last resort |

pour out a little liquor for Ripken!
we gonna miss you homie! |
Sorry about your fish. I had a goldfish named Jason once and he got lost when I moved. I think he jumped out of the bowl between houses. It was just 1/4 mile down the street. I was so sad. :(
I had a really cool puffer fish, too. Puff the Magic Fishy was his name. He looked like a little alien. My dad let him die after I moved out of town. I couldn't take him with me and my mother said he kept telling her he fed him but he really hadn't. My mother didn't know he wasn't really feeding him until she found him floating. He was the coolest little fish. My dad can be so absent minded. :( |
sorry to hear that... :(
|
im not a fish person, but like some of your guys in this thread, i too, had a fishy that i became very attatched to. :(
his name was "fishy" and he was a fighter fish. awesome lookin thing! he was so cool too. he would place himself in the bubbles (the air pump) and float to the top of the water & sometimes even out of the water a little bit-he LOVED it! :) when i would go to bed, he would go hide under this rock that he slept under. and when i would wake up, he woke up. he was the coolest thing in the world. but, i had to leave him behind when i moved out of state for 2 yrs ....the Mr was cleaning, bumped the tank, it fell off, the tank broke into pieces, and a piece stabbed "fishy" R.I.P, Fishy......hopefully he'll find Ripken in that big-finned heaven in the sky! :thumbsup |
Add some insta cure I belive it's called
Drop a plastic cup with rock salt inside. Call it 3 table spoons if it's a 20 gal tank Drop the Temp to around 60 degrees I worked in a pet store. |

Your simple act of utter stupidity could have caused anything from the introduction of a new disease to the unleashing an unstoppable exotic breeding machine that could destroy an entire ecosystem. Go shoot yourself in the face. |
That's life, be patient and wait
|
You should just be glad you had a goldfish that lived for 6 fucking years, I'd be lucky if mine ever made it 6 months

Anyway, he got to be so much of a problem and I didn't want to just flush him so I scooped him up and put him into a nearby pond. Now that pond has tiger stripped looking fish swimming all over in there. :( |
If kept right, Goldfish can live 15+ years. That means no stupid bowl...in an actual tank or pond or anything larger.
Problem is most people keep them in a small bowl with no filter..they won't grow as big as they should and will die quick. Or kept in a small tank. They need 10+ galloons per goldfish. Here is a story about a 27 year old goldfish. http://www.goldfishconnection.com/ar...=37&parentId=2 And check out Bruce..the largest known goldfish. http://www.goldfishconnection.com/images/Bruce.jpg |

"Goldfish can have lifespans up to 20+ years if they are fed a varied diet and housed in exceptional water conditions. They need to be in tanks that are not overcrowded. They need sufficient swimming room and do best if they are kept with their own types. " Yup, do a 50% water change and add 1-2 teaspoon of salt per gallon of watter. What kind of filter do you have? Best to get a Eheim or XP. Good luck |
idea...spend $2 and get a new one. :thumbsup
|
aww thats so mean, oh well at least you didnt murder it like my jerk ex boyfriend who just threw his fish in the trash when he moved

All Snakeheads do is eat and shit - have no clue how often they breed, or how hardy the young are, but the damn things are like fishy Terminators. |
I know what your going through. Last year my gold fish of 7 years just died. We never named him and always called him "fish". We always fed him dry cat food :)
