I think they're more worried about the jet. The police car is worth like 40k, the jet, like 20 million :)

Funny thing is there is a 95% chance I have worked on that jet before.
That pic was taken on the flightline at Eglin AFB 33TFW in Ft. Walton Beach, FL.
Worked there from '93-'96 and I'm pretty sure I worked on every single jet there during that time.

No idea how the fuck that car got under there though. The clearance underneath is no more than 4 feet.

liquidmoe 04-10-2004 02:07 AM

Cop was trying to flag him down for speeding.

Thank you people, I will be here all week. :thumbsup

Found the answer.

EGLIN AFB - Air Force officials say an airman fumbling for his personal cell phone is to blame for a police car ramming a parked Eglin Air Force Base jet last fall.

The impact knocked a crew member from the fighter's ladder.

Airman Raymone Sydnor, a member of the 96th Security Forces Squadron, accidentally dropped his phone while patrolling the flight line of the 33rd Fighter Wing, according to hahahahahahahahas released Wednesday by the Air Force Safety Center at Kirtland AFB, N.M.

Sydnor was leaning down, searching for it on the floor when he unwittingly turned the steering wheel, stepped on the accelerator and hit the F-15 Eagle, the report concluded.

Although the speed at which Sydnor was driving at the time of the crash was not released, the mishap totaled the patrol car and caused more than $62,000 damage to the jet's landing gear.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was treated for a concussion and released the day after the Nov. 5 incident.

In the wake of the mishap, patrolling security forces at Eglin are now required to get out of their cars every half-hour for a 10-minute break, the report reads, "to combat boredom and oxygenate blood flow."

Sydnor received a non-judicial punishment and is back on patrol after a full reinstatement, an Eglin spokesperson said Wednesday. A non-judicial punishment could include, among other things, extra duty, fines or letters of reprimand.

The eight-page summary and report revealed aircraft maintainer Staff Sgt. Joe Wills was climbing down a ladder on the Eagle when the crash occurred. He lost his footing and was left to dangle from a cockpit crew handle until the fighter stopped shaking.

The car's passenger told officials she wasn't feeling well while on patrol that day and had closed her eyes and tilted her head back for comfort. Moments before the crash, as Sydnor searched for his phone, Airman Casey Alexander opened her eyes and shrieked that car was about to hit the aircraft.

When the car was inspected after the crash, the gearshift was found in neutral, indicating the driver might have tried to jam it into park before impact. The report concluded Sydnor never braked.
