What Happens at San Fernando

As many as ten men each year volunteer to be Jesus and are nailed to the cross with slender silvery spikes. Spectators act out the events of the three days that led up to Christ's crucifixion that shaped the structure of the whole Christian faith.

... The Catholic Church actually forbids such forms of extreme piety, but it can't stop those who want to show thanks to their God for a healed relative, or for a life saving cure for their child.

There has even been talk of local officials bribing people to keep the show alive by pushing up the number of participants, realising the financial gains brought in by curious foreign tourists.

These people do it to pay homage to Jesus of course, but it can also be seen that they are mocking the death of Jesus.. they go through a similar degree of torture and survive perfectly every year, and then repeat the same torture the next year.

Yeah, they're very strange for doing that, or even wanting to do that, but what ever.

The church spends billions in building churchs and having solid gold statues of jesus on a cross.

I'd much rather they just got themselves nailed to a cross to show their love, rather than spend so much money.

I figure, the whole point to the Jesus thing is to be free, right? So, let these people be free to show their appreciation and their love.

Sure it's a twisted way to do it, but it sure beats gunning down members of a different religion, don't ya think?

It's all a tourist gimmick. I'm not baggin on christianity, but this is a little extreme even my view. no where does it say that you have to do or by doing this you're gonna see the promise land.

Do you know how many thousands of people were crucified the same day as Jesus? It was the way of dealing with common theives and whatnot back then. That isn't the reason to worship him, nor is pain he went through during it a reason to have faith in him.

If you want to focus on Jesus, focus on his life not his death; because if you focus on his death you might as well worship bob the rapist who was crucified right next to him.

anytime christians want to gather and hurt themselves is alright with me.
