Whenever you mix governement and money you are going to get screwed, no surprises here.

That money is probably long gone already lining the pockets of politicians and government contractors anyway.

I totally agree with what the government is doing. What did the POW's do that other soldiers in Iraq aren't? They were the ones that got lost and eventually captured, why do they deserve that much money?

If anything, divy the money up and spread it out amongst the families of the ones who lost their lives over there. If they had children, set up a trust fund for them. If they were married, give the money to their wives...and so on. The POW's will make their own money with book deals (and movie deals if you're Jessica Lynch). Give the money to those who deserve it the most, not the ones that became instant heros because of over-saturated news coverage. :2 cents:

It seems the goverment want the POWs to be chasing the new Iraqi goverment, that isn't even set up yet and likely to be overthrown by Muslim Fundamentalists.

As for whether they deserve it or not, the risk they take when they signed up and what is normally paid to POWs, is another question.
