FreeBSD or Redhat?
A friend is looking into a server at servermatrix and wants opinions on which OS. He doesnt post here and Isprime handles my shit, so just lookin for opinions for this guy:glugglug

freebsd by far. is it managed ? is he a linux user or not? freebsd is for more experienced users. i have been running freebsd since 98 love it. all our servers and the servers we admin are freebsd. i would suggest you take that route. i am sure juicylinks would put his word in here too ;)

servermatrix is managed but updates and patches and shit for freebsd they dont do, redhat and hahahahahahas they do the updates. He is no server guru by any means, just needs alot of BW

FreeBSD for servers.
Forget the rest. |
Ok ill tell him freebsd is the way to go I guess:glugglug

Yeah all our servers run FreeBSD, and the guys who admin them them say they'd hate to run anything else.

If he is asking you which OS to install he should get RedHat and be done with it. SM is unmanaged, he will have a hard time updating and managing FreeBSD systems. With RedHat Enterprise 3 (which is actually a commercial OS) he at least gets to up2date to install his software.
