This was the first of many green lights approved by Bob Lutz the new guy at GM
He is also responsible for expediting the production of the GTO, Chevrolet SS-R, and the newly found momentum in the caddy line i.e. xlr, aggressivemakeover on the escalade and the goofy wagon looking thing
the solstace will have a ramp up to see if there is any appeal in the market. if it proves to be a hit thewy will waste zero time getting a high performance variant to market.....why......because they have publicly stated that the Pontiac division has a very clear memory of what happend with the Fiero....
The fiero in its concept was never meant to be a performance vehicle....with aggressive lines and two person cockpit it was not only mis understood by the market as an affordable sports tourer......it was also marketed incorrectly. Th Fiero proved to be disaster the cars could not handle even the lightest aggressive driving...
By the time Pontiac had made the car a true GT car the market had turned its backon the car and it was discontinued.....
Lutz will not allow tht to happen again and would like tosee the car become an inexpensve alternative to such models as the Z4, SLK, Crossfire, etc.
FYI......Bob Lutz was the man behind the Dodge Ram, Cab forward design integration for all chrysler passenger cars, the Viper, The Prowler, Neon, and many more.
The models above turned the company around and made it an attractive acquisition for Daimler who also owns Mercedes Benz and Maybach
