TGP-gurus> preloading thumbs on a TGP ???
 

Shemp told me I should look around for someway to pre-load the images I have on my TGP so the page loads faster overall.

Does any1 know what is needed to do this? Some sort of script? A special server to load the images of? Enlighten me :Graucho

i dont see why you would want a preload script for that site, for shemp's site i understand because there are multiple pages but yours is a single page site so i dont see how you would get a speed increase

your thumbs are VERY big.. 7kb.. and you have a lot of them. You can make them 2-4kbs easy. keeping the same width and height.

I would advise against preloading thumbs... as you may see an overall increase in the time it takes to load the page.



Preloading images is only really useful in the following senarios:

1) Slideshows or presentations, where you knowwhat images are the next to be shown.

2) Javas<b></b>cript rollovers. In this scenario, you preload images so that there's no load-delay when the visitor rolls over the image.

I would also agree with this. We have a couple of bigger thumbnail tgps. Well did. Just sold 1. But anyways. The size and quality make the diffrence. If you have a fast server, Then pic size doesnt matter. In a sence.

7kb could be 3 to 4. What I mostly use. It does help out.
Some of you gifs are big also. Bookmark one. and you have it every where on that page.

well my current loadtime is at 26 seconds so it's still under the other big thumb TGP's but Shemp told me it might help out to make the dld time smaller.

You should know I use thumbmanager to manage all thumbs and that script creates them too, so making the file sizes smaller is beyond me (I think) but I'll get in touch with support about it.

Seeing these comments I think pre-loading is nothing for my site, though I heard MadThumbs does it too but I'm not sure how...

What do you wanna preload? There is nothing to preload....

It's only usefull when you have rollover images or something.
