That is strong enough to kill a human in some cases, that strength is usually only found in the bear repellant size pepper spray... 10% is the normal kind...

Pepper spray makes your eyes feel like they're on fire for about a 1/2 hour.. If you wanna know what it's like then cut up a bunch of chili peppers .. roll it around in your hands and then rub your eyes.

It takes the fight right out of someone.

Stun guns require you be close enough to someone to use them. This is not good. If you want something that will shock them but not have to be close to the person get a taser.

I did the stupidest thing when I was about 17 I was driving to FSU for the weekend. It was dark and I had to stop to use the restroom. There where some scary looking people around so I decided to make sure my pepper spray worked. I sprayed it away from me but in an enclosed bathroom stall!!! OUCH!!!!

You can become immune to pepper spray if you get sprayed like 3 or 4 times, Thats why all cops in training get sprayed a bunch of times.

And to clarify your last statement about what cops can use...

Depending on what state and jurisdiction they are in (and of course what they are certified to carry) they can carry whatever they want. Most cops DO NOT carry extremely potent OC spray because it has a tendency to hit them just as hard as the suspect. There is nothing like spraying a drunk bald guy then tackling him only to have the OC rub off on the officer and then try to fight with diminished capacity.

I will retract the Lying fuck part of my statement then for now, pending proof of said certification, but you are WRONG dude 15% is cinsidered a leathal dosage... and has and is more than capable of stopping someone from breathing (i.e. causing them to DIE)

First of all, take the author of that paper into account when you simply glance over it because of the title of the paper.

Second of all, "in-custody death" is a very broad range. That refers to several other factors that were potentially aggravated by the OC, not the OC itself.

Up until I was no longer in my former employ, I was not EVER aware of ANY death DIRECTLY caused by OC. There are aggravating circumstances that can cause an in-custody death, but I think/thought was beyond the scope of this topic until later on in the thread.

No problem man, glad to retract something I might be wrong over anytime.... but back to the death... the pepper spray is the cause of death in most cases not the restraint, but the cops invetigating the situation do not always tell the truth... the blue line is in full effect when it comes to deaths...

Cool beans. I'll admit I got a bit worked up as well. I used to argue this point in court and sometimes the misconceptions got in the way. I geuss I was having a flashback...LOL

And as far as cops lying... This is one of the reasons I got out. The Public Safety/Law Enforcement base in this country is for shit. Crooked motherfuckers and spineless Prosecutors are everywhere. It was worth it for a while, but then I got real and gave up. No one man can really help, it takes a group or groups to really get shit done these days.

I've used a stun gun once in a nightclub fight I got dragged into when a guy went to punch another guy and the guy ducked and he knocked me over instead. You really have to make a good connection with it to make it effective. The problem is once you make contact with someone they leap back before the charge can nail their nervous system. So its only good if someone is trying to push against you and then it will work to get them off of you.

I used pepper spray only once and it was on a huge Rottweiler that charged to attack my German Shepherd when he was a puppy. He backed off instantly.

I've tested pepper spray by just spraying it into the air and the wind blew it back into my face. It basically makes your eyes close and tear, your throat feels like you've just swallowed one of those nasty mexican peppers, and its hard to catch your breath without making the burning sensation worse.

Again the basic problem with pepper spray is if the wind is blowing the wrong way you're the one going down, not your assailant. Also in a closeup situation, there's no way you're going to spray him without getting it on you also. And the shit lingers on your clothes.

Personally I really like baseball bats. Those really scare people cause you look like a total mafia psycho if you pull one of those out and give them that "I'm gonna bash your fucking head in" look.

I've used my bat 3 times and the minute people see you coming at them you can just tell they're thinking WTF this dude is serious, let's get the fuck out of here.
