logo contest $25 to the winner if I see anything I like, deadline, whenever I want

the logo must be of highest quality, and the winner will be chosen in secret so none of the participants will know who won, the contest will end whenever I feel like ending it..

anyone game?

sorry, but I've had it with these scam logo contests, and would like to hear from some of you designers on this.. being taken advantage of sucks

Sneka 04-05-2004 04:15 AM

chill out, you didn't even enter that contest :glugglug

Sneka 04-05-2004 05:20 AM

I know you were joking but I hadn't seen the end of this thread, and hadn't made the link with it ....

The whole thing simply sucks! It's really unacceptable to see designer working a lot, to provide good entries in scam contests.
I think everyhahahaha should take care about who is launching the contest ( even if it's difficult to judge who is serious and who's not ).
Newbie's contests should be definitely ignored if they don't have referrals.
I didn't make any entry, but I'm feeling sorry for those who did.

doornx 04-05-2004 05:21 AM

if you don't like contests don't enter..i don't waste my time on anything around $50 for sure...i think $200 is still slim since it's a contest..

i hate wasting my time without getting something in return...sure ..a good logo might attract future customers but a good logo can take a few hours

of course I didn't enter that contest, I never enter these contests because I think they not only take advantage of designers but make the whole design industry look foolish.

doornx, are you telling me that you didn't mind suelynn holding this contest, not saying a word througout the whole thing, then seeing someone else post that he was doing the logo for her days after the contest was supposed to end?

You said you hate wasting your time without something in return, I totally agree with that

Designers, let's show a little more pride in our profession for god's sake. What's happening here hurts me, it hurts you and it hurts the design industry as a whole.

harvey 04-05-2004 12:49 PM

bla-bla-bla, but what the specs for the logo? I want the $25!:thumbsup

Don't get me wrong..i don't approve what he's doing at all

I'm saying that the only reason i would enter a contest would be to attract future customers and not to win the prize

Designers are selling their asses too cheap nowadays..galleries for $15...it takes me 2 / 3 hours to build a decent gallery

Persius 04-05-2004 01:05 PM

waste of time :2 cents:

I haven?t followed the bubble café contest in awhile, and have been reading in astonishment at some of the reactions.

DrewKole's response (below) is a fiery, eclectic mingling of mildly clueless. Clearly I've touched his life in a meaningful way. It was a beautiful moment.

Quote:

YOu didn't even post an example here, yet you let the designers of this board give you CREATIVITY through their work?

You agreed to take on a fucking project while there was a contest going on at the same time for the same project?

You just killed yourself as a respectable designer on this board, and you're a disgrace to adult designers.

I for one will never forget this, and will mention it in every thread you pop your stupid fucking head in.
04-01-2004? Quite observant.

My post in the Bubble Café logo thread, and referenced in this thread by graphicsbytia is fictional, seeded by a previous GFY logo design contest, where the guy running it had everyone competing against an off forum design firm.

doornx 04-05-2004 04:31 PM

QM...you knew there was a contest going on and took on the project..that's BS man, not the right way to do business

You can't just tell someone to close a content/thread...once people entered and spent time on it there's no way back imo.

I don't think Drew's response was clueless at all..your decision to take on the project .THAT is clueless

Illicit 04-05-2004 04:33 PM

for $25 you will get some very high quality designs...

heres one now...

I agree with DrewKole and some of the others that said they weren't happy with what you did.. you may say "who cares?" I am guessing you haven't been in this business long enough to find out why you should care.

Doctor Dre 04-05-2004 05:43 PM

I agree . That's why I never participate.

I got it a long time ago AlienQ.. but wanted to hold my tongue until I saw something that was proof of what was going on, and how bad it was.. that logo contest held by suelynn and the way it was run was a perfect platform for bringing this out into the open

Keev.. aside from all the unethical stuff that was done on that coffecup logo contest.. It doesn't really matter to me who runs a contest, even the most upstanding and reputable person, for the simple fact that doing work for nothing hurts everyone! Designers are being taken advantage of period.

Let me ask you this.. suppose there was a content provider's contest.. and they had to provide enough content for a few tgp galleries to see which one would convert the best. Only the winner would be paid for the content. Do you think they'd do that? Hell no they wouldn't.. then why should designers be asked to do work that's not paid for? But they do it don't they.. that's what I'm trying to bring into the open here.. not the contests, but the contestants. I'm sick of designers being treated like their time isn't worth anything, and it wouldn't be happening if there weren't those that were happy to oblige.

Lace 04-05-2004 06:46 PM

$25 might get you an icon sized logo if you're lucky. :1orglaugh

That contest did look pretty shady.

Design contests in general are a great idea. There are a lot of good reasons to participate in them. Don't like them, don't enter them.

Yes. I have been working with Sue lynn on the Bubble Cafe logos for the past 2 days.

She is really nice person to work for, the exposure for the resulting design work will be really great.

I really don't believe she meant to screw over any of you that posted entries. I asked her to close the contest before I agreed to take on her project, however the thread had sunk and the GFY search function was down.

I have now bookmarked the thread and will remind her to cancel the contest as soon as I see her on line.

now you're saying it was an april fools joke? I don't think so.. nice try

I agree with you Tia. After this incident, I will choose what contests I enter more carefully (if any). The couple hours I spent working on the logos for that supposed contest, could have been spent working on more important projects.

Some say that entering these contests is a good way to get your work seen, and that's true, but I don't like loosing, and my creativity depends greatly on my frame of mind. Loosing a contest doesn't help my frame of mind much at all.

Also, I always make sure I'm doing something inbetween jobs. I look at it as an investment. Because of this, I have several lucrative projects going now that were put together with a little time here and there. Much better use of time IMO.

urbx 04-06-2004 03:36 AM

I've only ever entered one competition, and that was only because I checked out who the webmaster was and knew for sure that their reputation was good.

But I ain't doing it any more, and I agree with Tia 100%.

If ya wanna be exploited, then that's up to you, but all I'm saying is... beware. :warning

Nice contest and quite a discussion you have started her Tia, it is good to see and know what is happening. Contest for me are also inbetween jobs. As a good paperdesigner I always get projects from big publishing houses, that is my core, so now as xxxamigoz we have a good team to work in the webdesign business, that is why I observe the quality work and design. And I think that lost time is a waste of money. I support your thoughts Tia... :thumbsup
