anyone ever sent western union ?
I've never sent money with Western Union and I have to send some off today. Apparently I can't use th website to do it so was wondering if anyone has done it from an offline western union shop before and how easy they found it?
I have the full name of the person, the city and country. Somehow that doesn't sound like enough. I guess I will find out when I go to the shop in a few hours but I get nervous when sending money via paypal let alone a new (to me) method. |
Sending money via Western Union is very easy. I think you have all the information you need. They might ask you to provide some sort of password so the other party can pick the money up. But sending money via W.U. is usually very fast and easy.
|
Passwords are not needed unless you want it.
Just need first and last name, phone number and thats about it. Expected pick up city is often asked for. |
make sure you tell the person you're sending to... has ID to pick up the money!!!
because of 9-11... they've tried to get more strict about that!! other than that... western union is very easy... we use it sometimes to pay our phone bill or express pay a credit card deposit or something. |
you CAN send western unions through their website btw :2 cents:

apparently only if you are in the US or Canada (which I could get around because I *am* an american with an american card) but also it wouldn't take it for the country I am sending it to and said I had to do it at a shop. |
Very easy to do. But do not WU large sums of money. HELLA expensive!!!!

sending money with WU is easy and fast...didi it 3 times last week.
|
Its real easy to do and very reliable.
|
Very easy and simple. We do a lot of business with WU from countries that are not readily accepted by Visa. We give a whacking 15% discount to soften the WU costs.
I would say it's a fine way to send and recieve money. |

cool, I think reliable was the word I wanted to hear. |
it's expensive but then again a great service, the person you need to pay can have the money in his hands within 5 minutes unlike most other methods.
|
Call 0800 833 833 and send it over the phone. That is what I do all the time..
|
Do it all the time..peace of cake.

i received wu from someone i sold something to on ebay over 5 years ago and i remember having to go to farmer jack (grocery store) and it took like a half hour because the girl didnt know what she was doing.

western union will rip you off completely if you are sending to another country, their fees are high and their exchange rates rediculous
|
Dont forget to jot down the control number! I used to recieve western union allll the time down here when I ran a studio.
|
if i wanna send 50$ it wil cost me $27 fee total rip :/

Wire transfer is cheaper |
Hey Sarah, Ive been sending WU for well over a year, you will get some hassles but there are a few shops near you that accept the cash, how much are you sending because that makes a difference.

The only bad thing with WU is that it's really insecure. So be careful who you send to.
|
Wire it if its that much, WU have changed a lot of their rules you need to have one of their cards for amounts over £100, but since your only around the corner to me I will have a word with the friendly dude in Eltham High St, Ive gotta go up that way in the morning.
:thumbsup |

Cool, I went to one in Thamesmead today. There is a chemist right across the damn street from me tha thas the sign out but when I went in they said they don't do it anymore (take the sign down fuckwits). Then I found another one in the town centre but that was the one that would only take cash. I am a bit weary of handing over that much cash. Atleast with a credit card I would have a bit more backing if something went wrong. I am in central London tomorrow for a bit so might have a look around. It says there is one in Waterloo station. They have to be used to people not having the cash. |

The one in Waterloo should be OK make sure you take ID for yourself and the full address of the person your sending the money to and make sure he/she takes ID to pick up the money.
Best to have your person in Romainia find an outlet that they can go to then put that outlet on the form. :thumbsup |
One thing with WU.... Their is paper and electronic....
I can send and recieve WU "money orders" from the post office. However to get an electronic WU I have to drive 60kms to a smaller town then the one I live in. As this is the only agent "nearby". It's not exactly like in their ads where you can send instantly, globally, anywhere, anytime. -Ben |
