Intel Centrino Processor
What is it exactly. I viewed a few websites about it but I dont see any advantages that it might have besides giving longer battery life. I need to get a laptop and dont know which one to pick. Centrino Laptops are way more expensive but are they really worth it

unless you prefer a cheap laptop with a desktop CPU and a fan close to a helicopter. although up in Canada it might help heating your place. :winkwink: BTW: Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M Mobile AMD Athlon 4 Mobile AMD Athlon 64 AMD Athlon 64 for Notebooks |
centrino isnt a processor, they just call it that. its really a collection of technologies. its:
a pentium-m processor. while running at a slower base clock speed, it had several little tricks that are very nice. for instance. my 1.4 ghz pentium m (in my latitude d600) runs my programs just as fast as my intel p4 2.6 and actually a little faster. power management. not just average shit. it actually manages the clock speed of the processor, so that when you're just browing web pages it might run at 600mhz. with lots of hahahahahahas open might run at 1ghz and playing a dvd will pump it all the way up. this is a HUGE power saver and my laptop gets about 10 hours of battery with the extra bay battery in. this is good. wireless.. while intel has their own 802.11b chipset that they are trying to push with centrino, my dell has an upgraded a/b/g controller in it that does pretty good (though linux support is crap) centrino is very good. I've been using it for over a year and I would not at this point get a new laptop that was not labeled centrino D |
