We're killing ourselves

Last night I was chatting with an Internet buddy of mine on MSN. He's not a webmater but an avid surfer. I asked him to check out my new design on one of my thumb preview TGPs.

He was clicking around and was sent to one of my trades. From there he was sent to another trade .. which, when he clicked something there he was bombarded with pop-up hell featuring child porn .. it installed a bunch of viruses on his computer.. hijacked his home page with a message about 'you've been surfing child porn .. the FBI are comming .. protect yourself now CLICK HERE!' ..

I feel horrible that this happened comming from my site. I'm pretty strict about who I trade with. My site is rated with the ICRA.. I have a notice about my position on CP and a form to report any illegal sites.. I take this shit VERY seriously .. and I'm horrified that I sent at least one surfer to this crap...

I removed the trade that sent him to the trade and so on .. and told him to report it the ASACP .. but he was up all night formatting his hard drive because of some place that my site sent him ..

Why the fuck are there so many idiots out there who have to do this shit? This is what gives the Internet and the online adult industry a bad name. With shit like this going on it's no wonder Bush and Ashcroft are pursuing pornography so much..

if he's such an "avid surfer", maybe he should get s popup killer.

garett: sounds like somehahahaha down the line from you wasn't watching their trades. part of the reason why so many TGP's don't have open sign-up for trades. i used to get people signing up all the damn time with subdomained trades that slammed ya with the full screen trick and hammered ya with consoles.

dunefield 04-04-2004 01:20 PM

that majorly sucks...

i guess some people just don't have any ethics and just want to ruin it for everyone else...

I agree

Steve 04-04-2004 01:22 PM

yup - even having new trades disabled isn't good enough. Just got to keep it closed, and make people deal with you thru ICQ/e-mail

This is the nature of the beast.

SilverTab 04-05-2004 01:00 AM

not cool...but I stopped worrying about popups when I installed FireFox...the google toolbar's popup blocker for ie wasn't working too well for me, but with firefox, it's all smooth ! :winkwink:

still it's obvious that without sites like this in the first place it wouldn't even be a problem....

Advise your friend to use Mozilla!

I've never really had such problems, sure I use the Google toolbar now but I don't remember experiencing such an incident.

NiTe-HaWk 04-05-2004 04:13 AM

I hate that too. I keep my trades turned off so I have to go check the site before I approve the link.
