Simpsons' charcter voices on strike

Someone tell these bastards to get back to work - they're holding up my favourite show!

"The actors who provide the voices for The Simpsons have gone on strike for more money. The six actors have not shown up for two script readings, holding up production on the 16th season. Reportedly each wants about £200,000 an episode, instead of the £70,000 they are currently paid. Their three-year contracts ran out months ago and their agents have been trying to negotiate new ones but without success. "

sorry - no search function :winkwink:

it's a shit load of money
considering that after 15 full season's there is enough voice provided already to just splice and recreate anything they need those characters to say - I think they are pushing the line a bit

I don't think so at all. Without these actors playing the characters, there is no show. They give the characters their personality and without their contributions, the show would not have made it to the level it has.I say give them the money or cancel the show :2 cents:

Espescially since they make like $8 million a year anyway. The Simpsons is the greatest show ever though, so maybe $200k more isn't a bad deal. :2 cents:

That would be hilarious if they had 'scab' (strikebreaker) voices LOL

They'll probably make some kind of a spoof or joke about all this in a future episode. That would be hilarious.

70k/ episode for voice acting is crazy.. let alone 200k.. like said above.. they are lucky to have work with all the audio they'd have in stock from other episodes.. not to mention the hundreds of people that can do the voices just as well.

DR_PHIL 04-04-2004 06:18 AM

damn i thought one person did all the voices lol

there are one or two guys who do all the "supporting character" voices yeah
it's really just the family who have their own actors

most of the voice actors do more than one voice

Jedimaster 04-04-2004 06:31 AM

Do you know how many billions merchandising brings in???

They just want a cut of that.

I say give it to them:thumbsup

Gemini 04-04-2004 06:31 AM

They have already done that during the last 'strike' that they had to go on in order to get the pay they are getting. I think the article I read the other day said they originally were paid like 18k per episode.

Something alot of you don't think of when you hear large salaries for these shows... they have to provide their own transportation and they might be in NYC doing something and get the call that something has to be redone etc etc or added to... that sort of thing. I'd hate to see their travel expenses each year.

It runs locally twice in the afternoon... they had one of the episodes on with the different people doing the voices the other day, and even *I* noticed it. And I do my level best to ignore the show. lol Homer's voice was about 3 octaves deeper. rotfl His was the most noticeable.

Jedimaster 04-04-2004 06:32 AM

Thank you, come again!

Nonical 04-04-2004 06:44 AM

either way, they're still being over paid.

yeah well its not like it would cut into the profits too much.. maybe they should just start paying all expenses/travel accomodation etc instead.

What the fuck is overpaid? Shit, I'm overpaid. I think I'll fire me and hire some cheap labor that can do the same thing.

Damn some of you people.

volante 04-04-2004 07:54 AM

To put this in perspective - Friends is less popular worldwide, has had less episodes, and earns a fraction of what The Simpsons does in merchandising.

The main cast of Friends were earning $1million per episode... is it any wonder the cast of The Simpsons want more d'oh?

Talent and common sense are 2 different things, maybe the voices will wise up to the fact that they are disposable, then again their ego's probably won't allow that! :1orglaugh

Corleone 04-04-2004 09:12 AM

greedy fuckers

Hardcore Kay 04-05-2004 02:07 PM

How many episodes per season?

Hollywood Horwitz 04-05-2004 02:10 PM

well this could also explain why its taking them another 6 years to do the Simpsons movie, its expected to be released in 2010!!!! Matt Groening is filthy rich but i question his character.

Lucy 04-05-2004 02:12 PM

cheap bastards:(

StuartD 04-05-2004 02:15 PM

They are worth more than 200k in my opinion.... I mean, 16th season here. They're a franchise, they're legends.

They are worth every penny and more.

200k$ PER EPISODE !!!

That's 8M$ / season !

hova 04-05-2004 02:19 PM

I'll do it it for 50K per episode, and I'll even do it nude if they really want me to

Hardcore Kay 04-05-2004 02:20 PM

There are 40 episodes in a season?!! I thought a season would be 15-20 episodes.

TurboTrucker 04-05-2004 02:33 PM

Cameron Diaz is getting 10 MIL for Shrek 2.

At the end of the day, they are only doing voice-overs.

People do REAL work for much much less. It's just a case of people getting too greedy again...
