DA Candidates Say Someone Planted Porn On Their Computers
Sheriff Upset Over Not Being Contacted With Complaint
POSTED: 12:36 pm MST April 1, 2004
Two candidates for Mesa County district attorney claim someone broke into their homes and put pornography on their computers.
Ann Duckett and John Moore said they didn't report the burglaries to the sheriff's office because the sheriff, Stan Hilkey, has endorsed the third candidate in the race.
Duckett reported the incident to the Colorado Attorney General's Office, but the office doesn't have jurisdiction in the case.
Duckett said someone burglarized her home on March 24, reading files on a computer and leaving a pornographic file on the computer.
Moore said someone broke into his home Monday and also left a pornographic file on his computer. The intruder also locked the family dog in the house.
In a letter to Hautzinger, Duckett recounted her discovery on March 24 that someone had broken into her house, breaking a picture window, and accessed files on at least one computer.
The fact that the sheriff's department wasn't contacted about the alleged break-ins riled Hilkey.
"To suggest that the men and women of the Mesa County Sheriff?s Department don?t have the character or integrity to take a burglary report is offensive to me," he told the Grand Junction Sentinel.
