Do you empty out your PayPal account before each transaction?

I empty mine out before ordering each time to keep my accounting straight...

What do you do?

brickbat 04-03-2004 03:19 AM

I sure as fuck empty it after receiving a payment :) Can't be too careful now that Paypal seem to be getting tough on 'adult product' money. I find it easier to fund transactions from a cc too, rather than leaving any money in there.

Shame there's nothing better around (that I can find, anyway).

Manowar 04-03-2004 03:36 AM

empty my paypal account once it gets a bit too high for comfort, always leave like $200 in there for anything that needs to be done quickly

=^..^= 04-03-2004 03:57 AM

I take almost all my money out as soon as i recieve it
i only leave $50 or less in there

in fact i got an email from them today saying i had receieved a fraudulent payment from someone (liek someone stole someones accoutn to pay me with )

there's always some shit with them

Marcus Aurelius 04-03-2004 04:52 AM

If its over 100 bucks I draw it out with my atm card. Gotta love a paypal debit card. you can actually go about -$600.00 on it before they cut you off. My friend rick brought a refurbed turbo for his car off ebay with an empty paypal account. then paid it back the next week. I hope they never fix that.

KRL 04-03-2004 05:26 AM

PayPal has 40 million customer accounts. I bet at least 20 million of those leave around $50 to $100 in there at any time.

Think about that. That means they get a $1 to $2 Billion interest free float going in there.

Now that's JUICY! :Graucho

DR_PHIL 04-03-2004 06:55 AM

i keep like a buck in there for verfications

SoundMan 04-03-2004 07:30 AM

i keep 3 dolla in there max..

thatjen 04-05-2004 03:43 PM

I now keep my Paypal account at $0 after they accidently closed my account for two months and held all my money. I only use my account for Ebay or non-adult stuff, but still keep it at $0. My question is: since they have your bank account info, can they just go in and take money out of your account if they feel like it? Like if you sell something on Ebay and the person decides to chargeback, can Paypal go into your account and withdraw the money?

BradM 04-05-2004 03:46 PM

I empty it right when I receive payment and such.

m00d 04-05-2004 03:50 PM

i keep money in my paypal ive never had a reason to do othewise..
mind you I usually have less than $500 in there

shermo 04-05-2004 04:08 PM

Anytime money is paid, I immediatly deposit it int my checking account. I can pay just as fast through Paypal regardless of whether or not it's in my checking account or in my paypal account. The only difference is that I don't have to worry about my bank closing it's doors and suspending my funds.

I did one time on accident. I actually forgot that I sent the money to my bank, and made a purchase with my paypal account. My balance was -$150.23 or someshit.

Webasic 04-05-2004 05:19 PM

Spunky 04-05-2004 05:26 PM

Highly unlikely for many different reasons.

Assuming the overall Paypal user base accurately reflects the wealth in America, that would mean 50% of American's in general would have to be able to afford to keep $50-$100 just sitting around online for your theory to be correct.

If you think that's the case, then you are dreaming.

The typical Paypal user signed up to buy things on eBay. No need to keep money in the account for that anyway.

That's called credit mang ...

I just emtied mine . I found some money on old accounts I didn't know I had

Jace 04-05-2004 07:41 PM

if you have any ties to the adult world and you keep ANY money in there at all, you an idiot

my paypal was turned off because a porn domain was linked to my email address through some website that had my email on it, a NON PORN email

they can shut you off at any time for anything, it is in their terms.

before they shut me off, when I got money deopsited I would go straight to the ATM and withdrawal it all.....if it was more than my $400 limit I would spend it...i would rather have goods than money held....shit, i would spend it anyway

Jeremiad 04-05-2004 08:35 PM

I refuse to deal with PayPal any more. I had a perfectly legitimate company processing transactions with them as an option, as I hate to only offer my customers credit card transactions. When the heavy investment of initial traffic proved successful, PayPal flagged my account as "suspicious" and never did provide any reason as to why. They held over $8,000 for more than 10 months, and then their "processing and investigation fees" left me with little more than half of the original amount.

I am not the only one who has been fucked by PayPal. Check out www.paypalsucks.com and make sure you cover your ass if you want to deal with them.

Ironically, if you appear to be a big enough company with enough contacts and clout to make a potential difference, they seem to be pretty reasonable to deal with. I have dealt with them on several occassions with respect to larger clients that I do administrative work for, and they have been pretty good.

Crazy, but such is life. If they think they can fuck you, they just might.

It's up to you, but I say beware. And it's probably not a bad idea to empty that account as soon and as often as possible.

Jere.

They might have 40millions customers. but I bet only about 5 million of those are active with about $50-100. Most people just create an account and never use it

jacklynlick 04-05-2004 09:36 PM

Paypal shut me down for using it for adult content, and when they did, they sent me a check of the $250 I had in there. I got the check with in 3 weeks. It was no big deal. But, I use paypal for alot of other stuff, like buying Eddie Izzard DVD's on Ebay.... donating to wild life funds, stuff like that. So, I re-opened an account with them. I always keep a couple hundred dollars in there. I figure if they take me for $200, I'll manage. So far, it's the easiest to use for online stuff that I've found.

Living For Today 04-05-2004 09:39 PM

i leave 100 or so in there. i dont use it for adult content though ;) it would be a pain in the ass to lose my paypal account since i use it alot for ebay.

Ron Bennett 04-05-2004 09:48 PM

Emptying account is good...BUT if you gave PayPal your bank account number, you could be in for a surprise one of these days.

PayPal can and DOES withdraw money via ACH from people's bank accounts.

Many may think, "who cares, I'm protected"...yes this is true, but the same is true for PayPal when *they* deposit money into one's account via ACH in that they can reverse the ACH transaction later - in that instance, PayPal holds the cards; getting a paper check sent is a way to avoid this particular problem.

Anyways, not sure what I said makes much sense...it's late...bottom line is if PayPal has your bank account info, they can wreck havoc! And on a related topic, keeping a low bank balance offers little protection - bank will send the person a bill for the difference...what one doesn't know about PayPal and banking procedures can cost them big!

Check out http://www.paypalsucks.com/ for more details about how PayPal sucks...and do they ever! :feels-hot

We never leave more than 2k there.

Here´s a hint though, a little offtopic but still about paypal. Try to get payments higher than USD800 via WIRE, not paypal.

You can be loosing some dollars if you are paying more than 30 bucks per paypal transaction (wire costs about that). Lets say... a 5k payment via paypal means you are paying $200 in fees. You lost $170 because you could be paying $30 to the bank. I know its obvious, but its also easy to forget about that. :thumbsup

Take care,

Bruno

I try and empty mine after every received money......

Big Ray 04-06-2004 10:43 AM

If you call PayPal, and wait on hold for an hour.. you can request "Auto Sweep".

Every night, paypal will transfer the balance in your paypal account to your checking account. Works great.
