Murder police charge 99-year-old

A 99-year-old man has been charged with murdering an 87-year-old woman at an old people's home.

The dead woman was found with neck wounds at the Kepplegate residential home, in Preesall, Lancashire, on Thursday.

Retired butcher Bernard Heginbotham has been bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on 26 April.

It is understood that the dead woman had recently moved to the rest home.

Thermal blanket

Mr Heginbotham, of Beechfield Avenue, Preesall was brought before Fleetwood magistrates wrapped in a thermal blanket.

He was allowed to sit in the well of the court and not in the glass sided dock because he is hard of hearing.

Chairman of the bench Sandra O'Donnell said because of the case's tragic and unique circumstances and because of Mr Heginbotham's age he would not be remanded in custody.

He was allowed bail on condition he stays with his eldest son Neville at his home in Greater Manchester and must also undertake a medical examination

fucking weird
i wonder what his motivation was?

maybe he just wanted to experience what it was like to kill someone - so he waited till it was too old to matter

Screaming 04-02-2004 06:45 PM

he will probably die before the end of the trial

You do the crime, you do the time.

Age doesn't matter.

pimplink 04-02-2004 08:58 PM

Let him savor the rest of his days.

I agree.

Shit, he may still have 14 years left in him, and for that matter; same goes for the woman he killed.

Let him suffer for taking a life. Period.

My grandmother had alzheimers before she died and she ended up staying with my mom and dad. One night my dad woke up and she was holding a pillow over his face. one week later, she was in a nursing home. Sad but true age takes its toll.

I told my wife fuck getting old and shitting in diapers with no brain left to recall the good times. at the first sign of my mind going, im going to a ferrari dealership, ask to hear an F40, F50, or enzo run, doesnt matter which, tell him its an old mans dying wish, when the salesman cranks it im stealing it at gunpoint and taking it for a 230 mile an hour cruise through the state of georgia ending in a fiery crash somewhere near the florida state line killing me instantly...

My father was in a nursing home for a few months and his roomate was always screaming and ranting. It continued non stop day and night. My father and I both wanted to strangle him.

My dad kicked him and bit him when he found the other guy going through my dads drawers and throwing his things around.

After that they gave my dad a new roomate.

He may be deemed too ill to face trial...

Evelyn 04-03-2004 05:19 AM

He can be deemed to ill to attend trial. But as long as he is alive, there will be a trial, unless he pleads guilty or no contest, then they will go on to the sentencing part.

If you had cancer and were really sick from chemo and then they told you they could do nothing more and you would die in the next ten months, then you went out and murdered someone, would you still be held accountable? Yes. It has to go on the books as far as the judicial system is concerned.

The family of the deceased will have a better case in a civil suit against the nursing home or the old man if there has already been a criminal case against the old man.

The only way they cannot convict you is if you are already dead.
Then they go after who ever they think they can get for being liable.

We are part of a vengeful society here in the states. :(

thats sad
