What about people that smoke sitting next to their baby or children? They need your verbal abuse as well. Maybe even a bitch slap. Children can't protect themselves. It's up to us a society to kill their parents.

I saw that a while back and it freaked me out I didn't say anything because I feel lecturing people on drugs is a bit hypocritical

A woman I know who was an avid smoker was told by her doctor not to quit smoking during her pregnancy, due to the stress it could cause the child. She quit right after she delivered, though.

As far as drinking goes, there are posters in EVERY restuarant and bar bathroom telling pregnant women not to drink while pregnant. They simply can't plead ignorance any more.

Fetal stress when you quit smoking while pregnant is one of those things that has to be guaged from one pregnancy to another. It CAN cuase them stress (from withdrawls), however generally it's not enough stress to cause real problems...


Drinking alcohol while pregnant is SEVERELY dangerous... Fetal Alcohol syndrome is with a child for life.. It can cause all kinds of mental deficiencies or even retardation. It's terrible.. I'm glad I quit smoking for sure, and I'm really glad I don't drink. I DID have one sip of wine on my wedding day while I was pregnant, but one sip is certainly not enough to even make a difference :)

They should be thinking about the health

As I say, you never know who owns a gun in this day and age and who will use it. We saw a kid that was sitting in a car alone while his parents were inside a store, as much as my husband wanted to say something, I told him you can't tell a parent how to raise their kid and you never know who has a gun. People are VERY protective over their kids and get all butt hurt when one tells them how to raise their own children. As much as you may disapprove of it, just take a mental note to never do what you see unfit in front of your kids.

While pregnant I would have a glass or 2 on the few occasions that I was out with the FULL approval of my midwife with high bp, gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia.

--scream and hollar at them. call the nearest authorities. have them arrested. jailed even.
--hire an attorney and file whatever charges you can file. find out what laws have been broken.
--if it's somebody with a child: see #1 above. have that child taken away and made a ward of the state. you know the state knows "oh so much better" how to raise a child ...
--remind them this "land of the free" and "right to privacy" shit doesn't apply ...

None of your business? It's your tax dollars that will be supporting these fetal alcohol syndrome kids... not to mention no one deserves to be born like that. If you saw a mother in a parking lot physical abusing her child in other ways would it be "none of your business"?

About the smoking... if you're so addicted that you can't stop, then don't have kids. Period. People need to take on a little responsibility.

I think its up to them so I say nothing about it. Often they can read what I am thinking in my body language though. I wont say anything about it but I wont offer them a smoke or a drink even if they begged me for it.

I just mind my own business. As stupid as she may be, I'm sure it is not earth shattering news to her that "smoking harms your unborn child" or what ever that warning is that they put on every cigarette pack. Starting a fight when she tells you to fuck off and mind your own business isn't going to help anything.
