Went to London (UK) today

I went to London to do a shoot.

It seems to be now on Red Alert. Police all over the place, warnings in the underground saying "we will shut down the underground if we find suspect bagage".

It feels very tense.

Glad I do not live there.

Sarah_Jayne 04-01-2004 04:20 PM

fact: those posters have always been there in one form or another. London has never been unware of the possibility of terrorist attacks.

Edguy! 04-01-2004 04:23 PM

It's always been like that

It's looser now than at the height of the IRA, those days had rolling road blocks and the 'ring of steel'

Its chaotic in epidemic proportions worldwide. This is what happens when world powers choose sides, and dont mind there own business.

Bush is the worst offender.
PS. I am American, and a veteran, and highly dissappointed in the actions of our president.

Londoners are aware but not frightened...does that make sense? There is not a sense of panic in London. Inevitability maybe.

London has been getting bomb attacks and threats for 30 years so it's pretty much business as usual. During the early 80's a hamburger bar in Oxford Street, just around the corner from my office was blown up: within a few hours the place was boarded up and people were strolling past as if nothing had happened.

Yep it makes sense Sarah, londeners have lived in the shadow of bomd threats from PIRA for the last god knows how many years!!
Their used to living under such threats!!

Hopefully the anti-terrorist squadrons in 22 and 23 SAS are unleashed to deal with these fucking terrorists!

I lived in Canary Wharf for 3 years, the security around there is probably higher than anywhere in the country. Road blocks were usually up and unless you had a reason to be there you couldn't drive anywhere near the tower itself. I'd have no hesitation in moving back there though, it was a great place to live.

As some said above, we've lived with the threat of terrorism long before Osamas little buddies came on the scene.

the first time I ever heard from my husband on the phone was the day of the canary warf bombing. Now, I see canary warf from my balcony. I guess I know I am a londoner now. On the weekend I only briefly took note of how weird it was that my friends and I were climbing over security barriers outside of St. Pauls in order to hail a midnight cab.

yeah, more than fine. Just they were lined up against the sidewalk and there was no other way to get into the cabs. Such a safe area. Even prior to Osama, there have always (since I have been here) armed gaurds around the City of London (which for non-brits is a specific area of London) . The IRA have left their mark too many times and it is too much of an important area.

Post some pics when you return.

alan-l 04-02-2004 12:11 AM

I remember Maggie times and the IRA shit. Nothing new :ak47:

jimboc 04-02-2004 12:11 AM

And you are only talking about the uniformed officers. There's 100's of plain clothed police patrolling the underground daily now:glugglug

born4porn 04-02-2004 01:30 AM

we are relatively lucky here in Australia, but that could change very quickly.

Mr. Marks 04-02-2004 01:31 AM

Have fun and bring some hot chick home!
