LCD Eye strain. WTF to do.

Alright. So I had monitors, years went by my eyes hurt like hell.
Then I got those flat monitors, were good for a while, eyes
started to hurt again. Finally I got flat panels, were ok, now eyes
hurt again.

I don't got glasses, and my vision is pretty damn good, but
I spend an average of 12 hours a day in front of this piece of
shit, and sometimes as soon as I get in the office and look
at it for a minute or so they start to hurt and itch.

Anyone else have these problems, what you do?

I'm thinking of going to see an eye doctor but I'm a cheap
ass without insurance and don't feel like spending hundreds
or thousands on some eye surgery.

Spend less time on the PC

I wonder if you have super uber eyes and just fel what monitors do to them.. I wonder if they are built to do particular things to the eys. I wonder why some high end corporations have those black panels over their monitors.. All these things I wonder.

I find that a laptop flat panel works good for me.

Is the flat panel you got a TFT or LCD?

I've got a 2 LCD system, they're both side by side.

strain comes from using your eyes, nothing to do with your monitors
have a 15min break every 2 hours

goBigtime 04-01-2004 04:17 PM

Fresh carrot juice daily & take breaks like Lane said above.

("Fresh" being juice it yourself) :thumbsup

I had problems a while back and I found that the lighting in my office (two 100 watt bulbs in sconces on the wall behind me) was inadequate. I bought two "happy eyes" natural lights and put them in my office. For a while they seemed way too bright, but now if they aren't on, it's way too dim in here.

Here's a couple of eye strain articles..

Eye strain. Try to give your eyes some rest.
And try to get some eye glass.

I was an Optometric Assistant in my pre-porn life and there are a few things I'd recommend.

1. Definitely go and see an Optometrist asap. Your eyesight isn't something to fuck around with. Forcing them to work too hard is going to degenerate your eyesight quicker.

2. Monitor distance is in the mid-range, a distance many people have problem with. It's neither a close reading distance, nor a far distance like your tv or driving a car. It's unnatural for our eyes to focus at that distance for such long periods of time and many people need a special Rx for computer work, especially if you're looking down at the keys and back up to the monitor. It's difficult for your eyes to adjust.

3. Take regular breaks and let your eyes rest. Doing ANYTHING for 12 hours straight every day is going to wear you out.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? That can play a part in the changes you're experiecing too.

Good luck :)

Wow some good advice in here.

I recommend definitely seeing an eye doctor. Your eyes are way too important!

Don't abuse you eyes. If you feel that your
eyes are tired try to close your eyes to make it rest.

Mr. Marks 04-02-2004 02:27 AM

Adjust the ligh in your room.
Be sure that your distance from the screen
is far enough for your eyes.

rounders 04-02-2004 03:21 AM

spend less time on it and get some cucumbers on it! :)

DanielS 04-02-2004 04:22 AM

You probably have your eyes very tired and/or infected. Use this for the tired vision:

1. Glass filter for monitor.
2. Eye pads for cleaning them.
3. Some medicine to reduce that red irritation on them.
4. Use lights type 'daylight' and be sure to use lots of them.

If your eyes are infected, for example you touch them whithout cleaning you hands before, you should go to the doctor because you will need some prescription.
