Question regarding the Playboy trademark
Is it allowed to own a domain that carries the term "playboy" if the domain contains nothing but promotions for Playboy Plus and no other traffic leaks to other sites?
I got a catchy domain and want to park a landing page on it. Feedback from adult.com is appreciated. :) |
send over a mail to playboy :glugglug

I figured the response time here would be faster. I might be wrong though. :winkwink: |
That would be making $ from their trademark.
No it is not OK (IMO) but they may or may not care. jmho |

Erm. I would be making them money, too. I don't know whether they would care for additional 20+ daily signups from there. That's why I ask. :Graucho |

No, but they probably won't hassle you if you promote Playboy's stuff.

I don't see why they would shut you down if you promote the right stuff

don't do it. its clearly stated in the rules that they son't accept this. period.
|
I doubt they will mind you using the name to make them money but ask to be on the safe side.
|
if you werent using the term 'playboy' to promote or have anything to do with Playboy, then you could do whatever you wanted.
but you said you would be sending them signups, so no that isnt allowed....TOS |

What a big steaming pile of crap. |

They are hardcore when protecting the Playboy name. They don't let anyone use their trademark.
Be safe. |

Yes I do disagree, because they won't let you use Playboy for anything that doesn't have anything to do with Playboy. |

if you wanted to register singleplayboys.com and make a dating site for girls looking for rich men, then legally you wouldnt be treading on their trademark. it's when you start taking the term 'playboy' and applying it to the adult industry, models, magazines, and those types of things where you would run into trouble. this isnt to say that Playboy couldnt make your life a living hell and practically force you to shut down the site....i'm just saying legally you wouldnt be doing anything wrong. but this has nothing to do with your question anymore.....you were speaking of promoting playboy with a 'playboy' domain, and according to their TOS that isnt allowed. |
Funny is that, for example, the yahoo search for "playboy plus" reveals heaps of domains that violate the TOS, but still seem to be up and running.
Go figure. I'll just email Lensman about this matter. |
