GIMP 2.0 - Free Imaging Software
Looks kinda cool. Anybody try this? I'll personaly stick with Photoshop, but I thought I would atleast post this for the ones too cheap to purchase from Adobe...
http://www.gimp.org/ The GIMP developers are proud to release version 2.0 of the GIMP, the leading freely distributable program for photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. This release is a major event, marking the end of a three year development cycle by a group of volunteers and enthusiasts who have made this the most professional release of the GIMP ever. It is the first stable release that is officially supported not only on Unix-based operating systems, but also on Microsoft Windows and Macintosh OS X. http://www.moviepatrol.com/gimp.jpg |

|
for most photoshop is also free

GIMP is nice software, it came with one of my older linux distro's, and since that's about all there is for imaging on linux, I loved it. About as powerful as Photoshop, and quite a bit faster since it optimizes memory like whoa.
Photoshop 4 life, though, as long as I'm running Windows :thumbsup |
Nice, thanks for sharing! :thumbsup

GIMP rocks. It does 95% of what Photoshop can do, and most people on this board don't know what the other 5% is anyway.
There's even been a windows version out forever... http://www.gimp.org/win32 I find it a pain to use Photoshop now after using the GIMP for so long. |
There is also a version for Windows, I used it for a period, it's not bad, but photoshop continues to be the leader
|
Will have a look at it :0

The GIMP is a pretty decent image editor, and they've done some good work in consolidating the amount of on-screen windows that are required to use the tools for the 2.0 version.
If you're used to Photoshop and it makes you enough money to be worth paying for it, its probably worth staying with the environment you're comfortable with though. |
