Signatures: Marketing genius or sloppy idea?

what do you think?
do you think that signatures are a great marketing form and that they will probably exist as long as GFY is alive?

or do you think it's just something else to add to the title "Go Fuck Yourself" and that they will most probably disappear in the near future?

discuss...

I think it helps not as much as some people think it does, but then again if your buying 30 - 40 sigs i'm sure it will make some sort increase in the traffic. Also if you buy it from the right people it will be worth your investment.

i dont click banner spots, do you?

ive asked this question to a ton of webmasters, everyone seems to agree. banners hardly get clicked. ofcourse here you have to have a banner to have a bigger sig, so it works hand in hand.

sigs will from here on out be a marketing ploy i belive.

keep em comming!

Does anyone care??? That is the real question

sig whoring is one of the things that keeps gfy active and profitable, this is one of the most liberal boards in adult. I think it's a mistake when any board tries to limit advertising siting the old stand by reason that it's unfair to the paying advertisers. Paying advertisers want traffic numbers, and liberal sig and posting rules promote that.

I think they will be there for a while ... webmaster buying sig for 12k $ get known really quick

exactly

Lensman declared that he is going to modify the sig market rules and evenrutally disable the option to disable sugnatures ( yeah, sounds funny ).
Now about 30% of webmasters have sigs disabled.
If that idea is implemented, sigs will probably become even more valuable.
Then a professinal auction webmsite can be created where sig buyers can bid easy and buy sigs in bulk and Lensman gets 15% of the sig deal..
And then everyone is happy.

IMO there's nothing wrong in buyning signatures, it is only wrong when people posts like "Eat my dick" in the title and "sorry, i am bored" in the thread only to get sig views.

Doctor Dre 03-30-2004 03:33 PM

I don't think Lens need the 15 % after he created all the big buzz about sigs on the forum :P

I sign up through other people's sig all the time....

I usually find the latest and greatest programs :thumbsup

Edguy! 03-30-2004 03:35 PM

I think they're great....

Then again, I would...

Sigs rule. I have a high speed connection, so i dont experience loadtime slowness... I find interesting stuff and sometimes people find me through my sig.

dunefield 03-30-2004 03:40 PM

I find sig's handy if i'm looking for sponsors, hosting or designs...

add content providers and that about covers the entire industry

sigs are a great way to get page views - as long as you dont get raped on the price, it's a good deal

I think if Sig Monkeys excellent script has proved anything it has proved just how shit signature click thru ratio's really are. There are lots of people out there using it and the CTR on the majority of them seems to be very low if not non-existant.

bignasty 03-30-2004 04:12 PM

they're somewhat effective. I dont think ive ever clicked but one or two banners, but I have signed up for a lot of sponsors off of seeing it in someone's sig.
