Heh, I'm changing over to a Laptop/Wireless combination soon just because of the flexibility. Its sweet to be able to check mail & browse wherever you want :)

stephanie m. 03-30-2004 09:09 AM

I used to be wireless. Working on the beach is awsome:)

gazool 03-30-2004 09:11 AM

pornguy 03-30-2004 09:19 AM

Steve 03-30-2004 09:21 AM

Rankings 03-30-2004 09:21 AM

setup only took minutes - i just plugged my modem into the internet port on the wireless router and plugged my hub into port 1. cost me $110 for the router/pc card combo at Best Buy

Babaganoosh 03-30-2004 10:00 AM

It's great being able to post to GFY while sitting on the pot. Just remember to move before your legs fall asleep. :thumbsup

I'll probably get wireless one of these days... it would be handy. I wonder what the physical effects on the body from wireless routers will be discovered in a few years :) that's a pretty powerfull signal passing through you.

tony286 03-30-2004 10:40 AM

If your just using wireless for surfing (my main box is offline) does it make sense to spend the extra money and get the g instead of the b?

I've set up several B wireless routers and they are fine for just browseing the net.. I've never set up a g so this will be my 1st one.. mine is called a extreem G :1orglaugh so it better be fast

router I bought

Weppel 03-30-2004 10:51 AM

Make sure you lock it down. I've got over 5 wireless networks in my neighbourhood i can just connect to and checkout all the pcs those idiots have in their network. You don't want that :)

Screaming 03-30-2004 12:02 PM

congrats

demented 03-30-2004 12:04 PM

What speeds do you get with wireless? Does it change when you move around?

Edguy! 03-30-2004 12:05 PM

Nice to see having a shit while posting getting some love, that's my personal favourite advantage of wifi

loverboy 03-30-2004 12:06 PM

axelcat 03-30-2004 01:00 PM

Wireless rules

benthompson 03-30-2004 01:07 PM

Wireless..They all say that they cover up to 1800 feets (500m) but don't believe that. If you will use them for more then 300 feets , forget it all. It will not work.. but for office usage it is great..

pornguy 03-30-2004 01:11 PM

I am about 150feet from the antenna and I am connected at 54mbps

And it's FREE!

Yep that is a quite reasonable distance for wireless.

That is good especially when you get the internet from the neighbours :1orglaugh

BRISK 03-30-2004 01:57 PM

Even though I setup a wireless base station here, I can access two other wireless networks if I wanted to.

Wait until WIMAX technology becomes more common, we'll all be able to connect wireless broadband anywhere within 30 miles!

EZRhino 03-30-2004 02:53 PM

:thumbsup

Lace 03-30-2004 02:55 PM

Wireless is a pain in the ass...Ive got a linksys 802.11b router and linksys wireless card - but keeping my network up 24/7 seems to be a problem. :(

Shoplifter 03-30-2004 03:17 PM

I have a couple issues with wireless...firstly ssh sessions will drop after a few minutes. And I recently picked up a new Sony K15 laptop and for some reason it forces my SMC 2404 to lose it's IP from time to time. Wierd.

High Quality 03-30-2004 03:18 PM

Its nice isn't it? Nothing like 100Mbit lan but 11Mbits will do for most things.

Lucy 03-30-2004 04:20 PM

good choice, I usted to have wireless:thumbsup
