AOL Giving Away Spammer's Seized Porsche

AOL Giving Away Spammer's Seized Porsche

COPIED FROM AOL

Every time you click the "Report Spam" button, you?re helping drive a spammer out of business. Thanks to your help in reporting spam, AOL recently won an important case against a major spammer, and seized his 2002 Porsche Boxster S.

Now we want to give YOU the chance to drive his Porsche away. Shift into high gear in the fight against spam by entering the sweepstakes on the right for your chance to win. And remember every time you click "Report Spam," you?re not just stopping spam, you're helping AOL drive spammers out of the junk e-mail business.

This sweepstakes is conducted in conjunction with Porsche Cars of North America and its Certified Pre-Owned Porsche program.

I love it !!!

Reported on BBC News Online:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3581435.stm

Seems the guy claims he was earning $1m+ from spam too, makes you wonder why he had a Boxter instead of a 911 :1orglaugh

As for the part about AOL's spam reporting, its almost worrying that any e-mail in an AOL users inbox is one radio button away from being reported as spam.. I wouldnt like to imagine the false-positive rate.

montel 03-30-2004 09:12 AM

spammers do make good money.:glugglug

Some people don't like spending money on cars. A lot of people with fancy cars are living on the edge payment to payment while the guy driving a regular car has his money in the bank.

pornguy 03-30-2004 09:17 AM

That is like opening a free for all to catch criminals. The main thing is, that greed will take over and people that are not even in the mailing business will get reported. And the way AOL runs the DC police, it will cause problems for someone that is not guilty.

I think that is the wrong way to handel things..
If they caught the guy without bribing the aol members, then they dont need to do this. It is just going to case trouble...

Just my :2 cents:

Furious_Male 03-30-2004 09:20 AM

This is not going to work well for the legit double opt in companies that have a high percentage of AOL members in there databases.

AOL has had a "report spam" button for the last couple years.

AOL has never "bribed" anyone to click it - it's just there.

As of now, I have heard of no abuse.

The sky isn't falling.

Giorgio_Xo 03-30-2004 09:34 AM

I think we should sieze all the AOL executives cars to auction them off for filling my mailbox with useless round plastic disks that harm the environment alot worse than any piece of electronic mail.

Ironhorse 03-30-2004 02:49 PM

I find it a little bit strange that AOL should do anything against spammers considering I am still getting their useless software in my mailbox at least 6 times a year :2 cents:
