Well, there is somewhere in between those two points that would probably be reasonable...

MJ is now about his face, his bizarre sex life, and his equally strange "family" life. Music is a non-issue, as could be told from his last (easily forgotten) album.

If he spent as much time on his music as he did on being weird, he would still be at the top of his game.
