Finally saw "The Passion Of The Christ"

Okay sooooo

What the heck was this movie supposed to be about?

Yeah I laughed at the end but I'm always cracking up during religious movies because it's always about people who never listen to God and get their butts kicked. Ya just can't wait til the 'God kicks booty' part of the flick.

I sat there for about 2 hours watching a man being beaten and tortured and murdered for no reason explainable by the storytelling.

I guess you have to read the book.

Some neato historical goodies though. Yet where there was authenticity in one area it lacked in another. Having extensively studied in theology there was more that a film like this needed yet I guess it was budget restraints.

Visually, if I had just walked in from the farm and had never read the scriptures nor heard the story this movie's storytelling says this:

Some scared guy living in the woods gets into a sword fight and he has superpowers to make people's ears grow back. Then a bunch of weirdly dressed people who look like 'Chef Kings' argue with a bunch of poor people and they all agree to beat the heck out of the dude with superpowers. Then Sinead O'Connor shows up in a black cloak and a few 'Exorcist' scary stuff happens and then a building falls apart.

It needed a prologue and an epilogue. I was expecting 'Yoda' to show up at the end and do battle or something.

Disappointing.

I think I'll go rent "The Ten Commandments" and see some real 'wrath of God' stuff.

btw I didn't see 'God' in the credits.

Do you think they'll have an outtake reel on the DVD with Woody and Buzz showing up for yuks?

The movie is not good and tell us a not so true story about jesus:2 cents:

Why was Jesus portrayed as a white person in this movie? I thought Mr. Gibson was striving for authenticity.

Do you actually take what you can read in the bible to be fact?

Stomped 03-29-2004 10:16 AM

That movie sucked big time.
I though they were going to make a sequel after I saw that "ending".

"Passion of the Christ 2: Revenge of the Christ"

First you wrote, "I guess you have to read the book"

and then you wrote, 'Having extensively studied in theology..."

Ok, am I the only one here that doesn't understand that line of comments? If you studied theology "extensively" then how is it possible that you've never once read the bible?!?!? :eek7

Lucy 03-29-2004 10:31 AM

dissapointed too, not truly movie.
you should go and rent a "shawshank redemption", this is assume movie!!!

llabtaem 03-29-2004 10:34 AM

I think he is just stating that if you haven't read the book, you wouldn't gain any knowledge from watching the movie. At least that's what I got from it.

I was at a party and was talking about the movie to a couple of people. I said that the end where Christ dies is pretty rough and some girl just belts out with, "HE DIES AT THE END!?!?! I can't believe you told me that! Now you ruined and I'm not going to see it!"

I then had to reassure her that he didn't die and lived 40 more years and had 4 children. :eek7

still waiting to watch it

Are you high on acid right now? He explained more than once that he tried to imagine the perspective of people who haven't read the bible (and who presumably haven't studied theology either). :321GFY

cayne 03-29-2004 11:06 AM

saw it - hate it.

He asked Will Smith, but he chose to play in

"Indepence Day 2, the Mothership Returns..."

EZRhino 03-29-2004 11:31 AM

I'm waiting for the dvd

Ironhorse 03-29-2004 11:37 AM

I agree. As far as a movie goes, it was lacking big time. From a religious perspective it really needed much more explaining. However keep in mind that he originally intended to not even include subtitles..:2 cents:

I posted my review on several boards and only GFY was brave enough to keep it up without removing it.

Bottom line is Hollywood knows nothin' about the scriptures. The stories of Jesus aren't about hate and murder and blood and guts but people interpret it that way due to gangsters who've found it easy to get into churches and religions and screw people over.

The story of the Christ is supposed to be about 'Good News' not 'Cry your eyes out news'. It's a story about a creator taking responsibility and punishment for the errors of his creations. That's all. Simple philosophy about doing unto others as you would have done unto you. Yet somehow it's gotten so askew with dollar signs attached to it.

Any movie about Jesus should be about the joy that God keeps his word and if you sin you've always got a shot at cleaning up your act when you want to.

In other words:

Satan still doesn't freaking get it. HE LOST.

High Quality 03-29-2004 03:38 PM

It made me realize how crazy christ was...

High Quality 03-29-2004 03:39 PM

That is... if he actually existed.
