best program for convering mpg into divx?
 

what is the best program for converting mpeg2 or even vob files into divx files? i tried this one program called drdivx but it was so slow, would of taken too long to encode. any suggestions?

looks to be what i need but its so slow, it says its gonna take 2+ hours to convert a 40 minute 1 gig mpeg file.

yep, sorry, but the whole encoding thing sucks...time, time and more time for all the formats...grrrr.

Have a bank of computers encoding various formats for customers all day and night...part of the biz

virtualdub is the shit, plus it's OSS too, so you're not selling out to the man.

I don't think that's slow at all. After all, it is a huge file size and any time you play w/ mpegs it takes a while. If you were going from standard avi to Divx, it would be a bit faster.

Check out the forums on doom9 or divx itself. There are some settings that will slow your encoding down and some that will speed it up.

Also, we tend to encode in off hours and batch process. You can do this in VDub/GKnot or in DrDivX. We will set them up by the hundreds and fire them off at the end of the day, and then QA them in the morning.
