whats dial up?
this is a webmaster board.
if you dont have a high speed connection, you dont belong here. |
only on the road if I really really have too
im considering upgrading my dsl b/c i think even that's too slow..
Only when I'm at a family members house. It's painful.
i use it about 10-20 times a year when in hotels or the cottage without highspeed.
512kb cable line
i've been 100% wireless since late 1999. and if i'm at a hotel, i bring my base station and hook it up to their ethernet line...

Switched to 512 cable 3 years ago, then upgraded to 1mbit cable last year
It's always good to have a dial up as an emergency backup...just in case :)
die dialup die....
although there are still a shit load of people in australia that use dialup, its only recenlty that cable and dsl have started to drop in price and more companies are providing the service. Up until about 3 months ago i was paying around $80 for cable with a 3 gig limit :( now its down to $59 with 10gig |
No.. 2x 1.5mbit(2 seperate lines/providers) @ work and 256k/64k dsl at home ( may as well be dial-up it's soo sloooow ).
Time is too precious to waste surfing (paddling up shit creek in a barbwire canoe) with dial-up. Great for email etc though. |
double DSL here :321GFY
and that means 1,5 mbit.
Dialup is awesome. It's faster than T1.

I refuse to ever use dialup again, I stayed in a hotel not so long ago and that's all there was, it was a figgin' nightmare :(
10 mbit here :thumbsup
I refuse to even bother anymore. I'm impatient, and it always just leads to me getting pissed off - I cant last for more than 5 minutes. Why anyone would still bother with dialup is a mystery to me (I guess the exception being if you live in a tiny hick town, or the middle of nowhere).
Btw...who here still remember's their first time using high speed internet? :Graucho |

256kbps here since 2000.
Before 2000 I was using 28kbps dial-up :( I remember paying like $2 per extra hour for my ISP (their bigger plan had just 30 hours per month), plus something like $1 per hour to the phone company back in 1996 and 1997. In 1998 some "unlimited" plans started to pop up, so I was all over it. |
:(
Since I moved house I have dialup and ISDN. Its the downside of moving to a nice part of the country in the middle of nowhere. I used to have both cable and ADSL. They reckon that by 2005 the area that I live should have ADSL, but theres never going to be cable :321GFY |
i dial up my ho's on the celli....

dialup fucking sucks. We still sign up quite a few to our small ISP each week though.
i would kill myself if i was on dial up, 1.5Mbit ADSL here
3.5 mbps cable here.
My DSL modem is coming in the mail this week!
Bell finally got DSL in my area. I'm as happy as a pig in shit. The first thing I'm going to do is fire up some peer to peer software to see what I've been missing. :ak47: 56k |
i heard that 70% of all internet users are still on dialup. Im on DSL, but if your TGP galleries are hella big and take 5 mins to load, that might scare em away
