anyone bought one of these yet? i'm thinking of getting one for a room where space is at a premium. supposed to be much better than plasma...

Would certainly be better than it's plasma equivalent. LCD is better quality, but size has been the limiting factor. But now, obviously, they're able to produce pretty large LCD screens.

I think that's an obscene amount of money to pay for a TV, no matter how good the quality is :)

somehow seems pricey for 42" - a GOOD plasma is pretty damn clear and I THINK -maybe I'm wrong??? - but less than 1/2 that cost????

from what i've read, LCD blows away plasma. lasts much longer too. yes, you can get a MUCH larger plasma for around the same amount of cash.

i've looked at smaller plasma's side by side with lcd, and you could definitely see the difference. haven't seen one this large though (largest LCD built?).

I have seen the large lcds side by side with plasma in the local sony store.

LCD looks like the stuff is actually real. So real you just wanna reach out and grab it, the plasma is... well just a tv.

LCD is worth every penny imo.

plasma's have *terrible* burn in problems, don't leave a game console paused for too long, don't leave CNN (or any channel w/ a "ticker") running too long, don't watch too much network tv w/ a non-moving watermark too long...

LCD's have absolutely no burn in at all, so that set is definitely worth the money. i've had two plasma sets already and got rid of both when the burn-in became too pronounced.. :2 cents:

They are great with a DVD or HDTV source but are -terrible- with broadcast TV.

My 4:5 Wega is a far better set IMHO.

But those plebian chicks love the flatscreens.

I have a couple plasmas and never saw any burn in problems. Stop buying cheap stuff and being stupid with whats on it.

Thats dumb cause cable looks like shit anyway and even dvd's have there limits. Buy a plasma for $3000 instead, they still sharp as fuck.

uh, like i said already, that kind of shit would never fit in this little den/library. i require something elegant, unobtrusive, and with almost no footprint. and i don't want to have blinds in the fucking room.

I have seen them with the PBS HDTV feed and it was quite something. I've personally never liked plasma, it seems to have a limited colour pallette and always seems a little off.

I still have never found a TV of any type that is as all round practical as a CRT type.

What the hey get it then, like I said it's a chick magnet.

Oh one thing I bought that is a must have is the Panasonic E80H
hard drive recorder. Best thing I bought in 2003. The picture quality is excellent.

kthxby. Marantz and Faroudja don't make cheap plasma's, the burn-in problem is inherent w/ the technology. go read over at AVSForum before trying to talk shit about subjects you have no grasp of..

i love crt. i bought my mom the 40 inch XBR Sony last year - the picture is AWESOME. unfortunately, the thing is absolutely massive - weighs around 600 lbs... great TV though no doubt.

I just bought a 3k plasma and am very happy with it, but since i do not watch a lot of tv i didnt want to spend to much over 3k

Plasma technology is on it's way out. LCD screens are cheaper and much lighter also.

But the 42XBR950 looks sweet! The new SONY models should come out this summer.

Sony has a 50" LCD version of that one.

The LCD's are nice but for the price you can outfit your study, bedroom and bathroom with plasmas. The price drop on LCD's will come swiftly and the selection will increase exponentially. I'd wait to see what the other manufacturers come with before I'd make that leap.

Don't use that specific SONY LCD model as a reference. LCD's are much cheaper than plasma.
