Ever have a chargeback for less than $5?

Can people actually chargeback small charges like $5?
I mean I know they can, but will the bank actually penalize you for it, will you merchant account ever even hear about it.

I did a chargeback for $4.95 for a mainstream site, they keep charging me every fucking month even after I did 6 chargebacks, the bank obviously is not sending this to them. Whats the deal with this?

detoxed 03-27-2004 05:51 PM

I guess no one has any experience in this

In Australia, they want to cancel your CC (and give you a new one) after your first CB.

Nope

I did a CB and National Australia Bank didn't ask to cancel my CC and issue a new one. I think it depends on the circumstances.

what did you steal for 4.95?

I just got a chargeback yesterday for $4.95 and $17.95 by the same person. Got charged for both of them.

The bank is more than likely sending the chargebacks your doing to the company. It's just the company isn't doing anything about them. I guess they don't care about the chargeback fees.

It could vary depending on the credit card company of the cardholder

SPP has never had a chargeback, but there have been a couple $2.95 checks that bounced

Whats the price on SPP?

EDIT nevermind $4.95 and $2.95 on checks

The cost of a chargeback to an issuing bank averages $15 to $25.
Most banks will simply write off the charge from their own pockets if it's for less than their average chargeback costs.

That's a subjective decision however. If the bank sees you've been charged by the company in the past or you have a record of charging back small amounts, they may follow through with the chargeback just to make sure you're not trying to scam a free month or something.
Also, if there are multiple charges from the same company totalling more than their average costs, they'll do the chargeback for all of them.

I got a few chargebacks for $1.95 about 1 year ago when I use to offer cheap trials. People would join then cancel the next minute not to get rebilled for the full membership then did a CB for $1.95 Fucking professional chargebackers out there.

Alky 03-27-2004 07:16 PM

sure, I have had customers charge back trial memberships before.
