DJT's "How To Get Rich" - Read It!

Just read Donald Trump's new book "How To Get Rich" while I was having coffee at Barnes & Noble. I was just going to scan it at first to see if it was just his usual fluff or not and worth buying, and ended up sitting there and read through the whole book and really enjoyed it. LOL

Excellent easy to follow reading. Lots of good business tips, strategies and advice in there.

Highly recommended!

Lesson #142: Once you're filthy rich, sell out and do a dumb TV show riding the "reality TV" craze.

Actually he has a chapter in there that talks about never think you know it all and should stop learning.

He really emphasizes one of the things I preach heavily and that is learn learn learn and suck up information about what is happening in your industry and the world like a vacuum.

Donald gets up at 5AM every morning and spends several hours reading 7 newspapers and 12 magazines each day. He recommends at least 2 hours per day staying in tune with what's happening around the world.

I spend about 3 hours a day doing this also. A lot of it reading periodicals and newspapers online now.

insanesurfer 03-27-2004 02:51 PM

I was going to buy it. I heard that it was good

eroswebmaster 03-27-2004 02:54 PM

Or you can read Eros' How To Get Poor.

It's really simple.

#1 empty bank accounts.

#2 find coke dealer

#3 find hookers

#4 mix together

#5 serve hot

Dveron 03-27-2004 02:57 PM

Probably pick that up.

He really is riding high again now. Dateline NBC are going to devote 2 hours to the Apprentice and Trump in April. I remember a few years back when he was supposedly seriously considering running for President..that would have been interesting.

GTS Mark 03-27-2004 02:58 PM

I just read his first book, "The Art Of The Deal".

Very interesting book, hard to put down. :)

I was up in New York City at a store in Trump Tower when that book came out. Donald happened to walk in at the same time and I asked him to autograph the copy I was buying and he did. He's a pretty nice guy in person.

Yeah,i've noticed that. :) It's important for businessmen to follow world and local news, but the most important thing is to know how to cash on the info. That's the hardest part.

I'm gonna buy this for sure. A friend read it few days ago and told me after that "Think BIG!"

aflex 03-27-2004 03:10 PM

i'll pick it up today upon KRL's recommendation :thumbsup

Ive read the exact opposite. He hates when people talk to him in public and goes crazy if someone touches him. But, it was written by an ex employee, so maybe it was exagerated.

Yeh a lot of rich guys are frugal fuckers. I'm getting more and more so as I get older. Hate wasting money on anything that doesn't have real value.

In the book Donald said he thought buying expensive shoes and suits was a waste of money for many years. He eventually relented and opened up his wallet and now gets custom made suits from Brioni and high end biz shoes.

I was just going to take a quick look and found it so fascinating I couldn't put it down and just kept going. Didn't even realize how much time had lapsed.

I'd feel funny sitting in Barnes and Noble reading books without buying one. That's why I sit in back and read the magazines:glugglug

I love Ikea here in Canada , lots of neat stuff, my computer desk came from there.

Once you can afford everything you become more frugal. It's not challenging buying stuff when you have the money for it.. then you really see things for what they really are.
Others want to stay low key. Want to be able to drive anywhere, walk and talk with others without coming across as "rich fucks" and just keep their own values, the values they started with themselves when they just got into business.

He has a chapter on that in the book. He wishes that the US would adopt the Japanese way of greeting each other, by simply bowing. I agree. Its a weird custom when you think about it. Why should two men grab each other's hands to say hello. What are you really accomplishing by touching each other?

I'll admit I have a thing about shaking hands also. On average I'd say half the guys who go into men's rooms walk out without washing their hands. That just totally grosses me out especially if they've taken a dump and don't wash their hands. WTF??

My mother was a stickler for hygiene and it passed on to me I guess. I don't mind shaking hands, but as soon as I can I get to a bathroom and wash up.

I think that's dumb, a 10 year old volvo has a much greater chance of breaking down than a new one.

Who knows what chain of events your car breaking down on the road can bring.

Ya, i was really surprised by that.

There was one story in the book about a group of them walking through the casino and a woman came up and shook Ivana's hand, after she left, donald started yelling at Ivana and saying stuff like "don't let these people touch you." LOL

foreverjason 03-27-2004 07:15 PM

I get the Financial Times and Vancouver sun.

Wall St. Journal, New York Times, Palm Beach Post, Sun-Sentinel (South Florida), and USA Today are the ones I usually read every day.

And sometimes Barrons, Financial Time, The Main Line Times (Suburban Philadelphia), Philadelphia Inquirer, and The Los Angeles Times.

aflex 03-28-2004 01:26 AM

Got the book tonight, i'll read it over the weekend, it looks really interesting.. I ended up buying a BN membership, too.

once you start to have all the toys just getting better versions of those toys isn't as appealing and money spent seems soo much better on assets that produce revenue or increase in value.

i was hugly sick in vegas and told everyone from a distance to keep away from me. some did - some didn't care and risked several days lost work and came in close to hug me. I was VERY sick and the knew it. I respected both decisions under those circumstances.

it's hard to lie to someone's face without visual cues that any trained salesman usually picks up on. next level is eating with someone, something about it relaxes people - the old breaking bread idea. it's even harder when physical contact is involved. There's something about touching a person.

to me it's about breaking those confortable barriers and getting a quick glimpse at what i consider to be someone's essence. it gives me that 2 second 'feeling' on whether or not I want to do business with them. Ok, I know it can be faked, but it's been a good gague for me and it's done me well so i THINK I'm usually a pretty good judge of character of the people i put to those tests.
