Who here finds PDA's useful

So I buy this cool looking PDA. Andhave alot of fun with it during the first 3 hours. And after that I just let it lay there. Its cool when you first get it, but after that you have like no use for it. What are some cool stuff u can do on the PDA. Anyone own one

PDA's are to make you feel more important than you really are..

Most expensive paper weight I ever bought...

"naw, man, take it, its ancient, i mean look at it, it makes me look like a hillybilly" :thumbsup

PDAs can be useful if you're diligent about using them. I could never force myself to do it, so mine ended up getting left at a Taco Bell.. wait, I mean I gave it to.. hmm, fuck.

Seriously there was a time when I felt naked without mine, now it sits on my desk as a paperweight. The only times it comes out for fresh air is during networking events and tradeshows.

I'm getting ready to ditch it for a Blackberry phone, no reason to carry two devices around when one will do.

When I have a PDA, I lost my short-term memory. When I don't have a PDA, my short-term memory works, but I manage less tasks at the same time. Not sure yet whether the trade-off is worth it. Must consider testing with one of those N-GAGE things.

Games are important.

It depends on the PDA, all I do is play chess on mine, I got one of those Rex 6000 credit card size PDAs. Pretty useless. If it's one of the latest Palm PDAs you can run (emulate) old Gameboy games on it, if it's a Pocket PC it will pull NES and some SNES games fine too, that's nice ;)

i use my constantly....on my third one, worn out 2 of them...lol

i use them for jotting notes during phone calls, have over 1k numbers and addresses in it! which is nice if you are in the car, get a phone call from a client that needs a URL, address, name, refference, etc. Jot down design idea's you name it, i ahve done it with my PDA. have all me banking/check ledgers in there so i can always know were things are at.

best thing is if i add a new info to it, or my PC that the next time i set down in front of the PC, it just syncs evertyhing together. love it, love it, love it...

I'd like to get one with bluetooth wireless internet... would be handy to check stats from the bar.

Does anyone know if they can load graphical webpages the same as PC's do yet? or is it still all text based?

illini 03-27-2004 07:19 PM

PDA's have always been one of those gadgets I seem to collect. I buy them with every good intention of taking full advantage of them but one day...I forget to recharge it and I'm back to pen & paper. I haven't used one for six months....but after reading this thread I'm thinking maybe I need to pick out a new one. Do they play movies yet?

i have this one and it loads the pages as you would see them in any browser. hard with large pages, but it does work...

think it depends on the OS that it has. mine uses the PocketPC software and it plays vids, picture slide shows, etc. have my family photo album in mine so i can 'take them with me' when i travel.

I used to used them, and had many of them. Now, I'd prefer a PA over any PDA any day. :Graucho

I bought a phone with Palm OS built-in. I went out and bought a 256 memory card for it so I could load it up with programs and MP3's and whatnot. What a great idea, I thought at the time.

Now the only thing I do with it is play Tetris. Thankfully I can still use it as a phone, so it wasn't a total waste. It is a nice interface to store people's contact info with though.
