Quitting smoking....

Ok so this is like the 5th time I've tried to quit smoking, Im working on my 3rd day of no smoking.. And I find it alot easier than the last couple times I tried...

Not nearly as bad of cravings.... although I still have manorisms of my smoking habits.. I finish something, then get up like Im gonna have a cigarette, then I go "Oh yeah" and sit back down and get right back to work...

So I am really hoping this is it.. If so I will save $2000 a year in cigarette money....

Hope it sticks.. I don't need anything to send me over the edge..

montel 03-26-2004 08:00 PM

get the nicotine patches, they aren't cheap but you will save a reasonable amount by quitting.

isis69 03-26-2004 08:01 PM

Good for you. I really need to quit too. I smoke cloves and have asthma, my boyfriend's been trying for awhile to get me to quit, but the second hand smoke bothers me less when I myself smoke, so until he quits, I really can't. I kinda want to at this point too.

Good luck to you!

Spunky 03-26-2004 08:01 PM

You'll be back ...they always do...*cough...cough*

CDSmith 03-26-2004 08:02 PM

Bravo on the decision.

Tip: I've known several ex-smokers... just about all of them said that week 3 is the roughest. That's when the "reality" of it sets into the body I guess.

Stick with it. Short of killing someone, tough it out. It's worth it.

Yeah I got the patches, bought the 14 day supply...

They help alot actually.. Kinda sleep shitty with em.. but shitty sleep is better than continuing to smoke while sick...

I came down with Bronchitis, Strep Throat, And an Ear Infection all in one week... So now is the best time for me to quit..

Thanks.. Appreciate it..

You're right week 3 is a tough one.. thats where I failed on the longest time I was able to quit before...

I've been smoking since I was 16... Im 25 now.. so almost 10 years... at a pack a day.. thats 73,000 cigarettes.... kinda makes me feel sick thinking about that....

marcj 03-26-2004 08:11 PM

I smoked for 2 years and just up and quit about 2 months ago. It was not hard at all, I don't see what all the hype is about. fuck the patches, inhalers etc.

I mean seriously, if you can't handle a little nicotine craving while quitting.. well.. you should just kill yourself! :BangBang: :(

when i used the patch/gum in 2000 they told me not to sleep with them since it fucks with your brain so much.

i'm quiting in may. Why? I have to have my wisdom teeth pulled. Very explicitly told if I don't quit before, there is a good chance of death due to complications with the lungs and the
general.

so...2 more months, then done.

brand0n 03-26-2004 08:31 PM

dude, i havent smoked a cig in 8 weeks. its tuff. and when people light up a bowl
:Graucho

Ludedude 03-26-2004 08:51 PM

Go get some cinnamon sticks to chew on when you get a craving. Gum, lots of gum, candy too. If you make it past the first 2-3 weeks you're golden. I did it 18 months ago with Zyban and I don't miss it. In NY it was almost $6 a pack when I quit...that's a shitload of money better spent elsewhere. :thumbsup

MrIzzz 03-26-2004 08:54 PM

i never went back to smoking:) almost 5 years now, and i quit cold turkey

my lungs thank me everday that i can wake up in the morning and breathe good, and i dont have a throat full of flem to clear

MistressLuna 03-26-2004 08:55 PM

Dude.. I tried Zyban, and it sent me into a serious fucking depression... I mean really bad... I still have like 60 days worth left I think....

I guess thats why they issued that suicide watch warning for people taking anti depressants.. Zyban is the newer marketing name for Wellbutarin I think.....

Take Vitamin B tablets! It fights the body's cravings for nicotine

That's what I did and I didn't even get the last step of patches. I'm going on 2 months.

: )

Sappy 03-29-2004 04:55 PM

Right on. I think I'm going to have to give it another go real soon. Too fucking expensive.

Whenever I tried to quit, I had problems with drinking. Not that I'd drink anymore that usual, but if I found myself even slightly intoxicated, I'd cave and buy some smokes.

kimzar 03-29-2004 04:59 PM

good luck, tried earlier in the year broke on the 3rd week
need to try again

Yep, def. I plan on quitting in 2 years, about to graduate from college in 6 months or so...

Quitting smoking in college w/ all this boozin/partyin' would be damn near impossible!

I tried quitting during my finals once.

Needless to say it went badly.

Three packs a day? How did you even find time to smoke that much?

exspamr 03-29-2004 05:16 PM

im into my 4th week without smoking... its not that bad... ive been using nicotine losenges, they help a little... ive used the patch in the past and that helps too... the gum is worthless... get yourself the patch if you want to stick with it

Aly-Python 03-29-2004 05:17 PM

Best of luck, darling! I quit recently... but it hasn't gone so well. Although I only smoke at night now, which is definitely a step in the right direction! :thumbsup

reynold 03-29-2004 11:43 PM

It's bad for your health.

BV 03-29-2004 11:48 PM

What really makes me want to quit is when i see sickly older before their time people out and about pulling their oxygen bottle behind them coughing and weezing up flem all over the place.

If I'm smoking one at the time i'll just throw it down.

then 20 minutes later i'm lighting up another :(

nasty fucking habit!

EddiePulp 03-29-2004 11:52 PM

I havnt had a smoke in almost 5 weeks.. feeling great.. I just feel healthier. Started at the gym. Now, focusing on cutting back on the acohol.

This might help you quit

'Give up smoking by sticking one cigarette from each new pack up a fat
friend's arse, filter first, then replacing it in the box. The possibility
of putting that one in your mouth will put you off smoking any of them' - captainsafetysite.com

pimplink 03-29-2004 11:52 PM

I can't understand why they advertise cigarretes
and then at the end of the commercial or the fuckin'
billboard says "smoking is dangerous to your health"

Diabolical Cord 03-29-2004 11:55 PM

Don't quit completely. Don't try so hard, either.

When I really tried to quit smoking, I had trouble because my mind was messing with me. I kept thinking about badly I missed the cigarettes.

Recently, I just was so distracted that I slowed down on the smoking to the point where I now go for days without smoking. I didn't even realize it.

Now, I just smoke whenever I'm drinking.

Tuna 03-30-2004 12:03 AM

good luck. :thumbsup

EddiePulp 03-30-2004 12:04 AM

Australias smart... advertising smokes is illegal.
Only advertising you see is in movies, when someone gets stressed they light up.
